Nearly everyone in the region will know you're referring to the Cheers family who, for over 40 years, have set the standard for adventure gear and clothing as owners of Mountain Sports, Ltd. What began as a passion for all things outdoors turned into a profession when Bob, Sr. and Alice were presented with the opportunity to purch

ase their favorite sporting goods store in 1981. Now the region's largest outdoor outfitter, Mountain Sports offers only the highest quality, dependable, and functional equipment, outerwear and classic clothing. Through the years, each family member has settled into their niche and can offer unsurpassed advice and expertise. Need to know what kind of clothes to take to Africa? What kind of kayak is best for the river? What bike do you need for the Creeper Trail? Just ask Bobby. Where's the best place to fly fish in the region? doesn't mind sharing. And if you happen to find yourself with a dog biscuit in your pocket, two chocolate Labs and one curly-coated terrier will tell you anything else you need to know. After cultivating the store into the ultimate destination for outdoor gear and adventure clothing, Bob and Alice retired in early 2006, leaving the Bristol icon in the capable hands of sons Bob, Jr. and Steve who are carrying on their parent's legacy. Although retirement has sent them in pursuit of record catches, smooth slopes and sunny destinations, Bob, Sr. and Alice still find themselves helping out from time to time at the store. The most valuable item in the Mountain Sports, Ltd. inventory can't be placed in a shopping bag. It's the personal attention to detail and superior customer service that can only come from a family passionate about sharing their love of the outdoors.

We know…we said the last batch was the last batch.

But after selling out so quickly, we had so many friends stop by, call, and message us hoping there were still shirts left. We just couldn’t stand the thought of folks missing out, so we decided to do one final order.

This time we doubled the order, and we truly mean it when we say these are the absolute last Mountain Sports Ltd shirts. Whether they’re gone by closing time on Wednesday or they hang around a few extra days, when they’re gone, they’re gone for good.

It has meant the world to our family to see how many of you wanted to take home a little piece of Mountain Sports Ltd. After 45 years, these shirts have become more than just something to wear, they’re a reminder of bike rides, river trips, trail adventures, ski weekends, climbing days, and the friendships we’ve been blessed to share along the way.

Y’all sure caught us by surprise.

When we released the first batch of our One Last Ride shirts, they sold out the very first day. We had so many folks reach out afterward hoping we still had one waiting for them that we decided to do one final run.

This is it, the last batch of Mountain Sports Ltd shirts that will ever be printed.

For 45 years, you’ve worn our logo on trails, rivers, roads, and mountains all over the country. It means more than we can put into words that so many of you wanted one last shirt to remember the journey.

Once these are gone, they’re gone for good.

Thank you for making Mountain Sports Ltd part of your adventures. We can’t wait to see these shirts out on the trail for years to come.

For 45 years, Mountain Sports Ltd has been more than just a store. It has been a gathering place for anglers swapping fishing reports from the South Holston, cyclists planning their next ride at Sugar Hollow, paddlers chasing water on the Nolichucky, hikers headed for Grayson Highlands, and friends simply stopping by to talk about the outdoors we all love.

When we announced that Mountain Sports Ltd would be closing its doors, many of you shared stories, memories, and kind words that reminded us just how special this little shop has been. We have been humbled by the support of this community and grateful for every person who has walked through our doors over the past four and a half decades.

As we begin winding things down, we wanted to let everyone know that our final batch of Mountain Sports Ltd shirts has arrived. These will be the last shirts ever produced with the Mountain Sports Ltd name, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Whether you’ve been with us since the early days on Commonwealth Avenue, bought your first kayak, bicycle, fly rod, or pair of hiking boots from us, or simply stopped in to share a story, these shirts are a way to remember a chapter that meant so much to all of us.

Thank you for 45 incredible years. Thank you for your friendship, your loyalty, and for allowing our family to be a small part of your adventures. We hope to see you on the river, on the trail, at the campground, or somewhere down the road.

While digging through the shop we found a stash of Mountain Sports Ltd stickers, and when they’re gone, they’re gone. These will be the last MSL stickers we ever have before we close up shop after 45 years.

If you bought a bike, kayak, Yakima rack system, or any other piece of gear from us over the years, bring it by and we’d be happy to slap an MSL sticker on it for one last ride. We’d love to see some of the gear that has been part of your adventures through the years.

If you didn’t buy a bike or kayak from us and just want a sticker to remember Mountain Sports Ltd, they are available for $3 each while supplies last.

We also placed an order for a final batch of Mountain Sports Ltd shirts that should be arriving later this month. We’ll share more details on those soon.

After many years of wrenching on bikes here at Mountain Sports Ltd, we will no longer be accepting bike repairs. It’s been our joy talking bikes, watching the Tour de France in the store, going on group rides, debating the perfect tire pressure, and just enjoying bikes with you over the past 45 years. It’s been a blessing to pedal alongside y’all, and we don’t take for granted the opportunity to share in so many adventures through our bike shop, both locally and around the globe.

If you are looking for future bike work after Mountain Sports Ltd closes its doors, be sure to talk with Travis, our bike mechanic, about his new business venture that will continue offering bike service and repairs moving forward. You can find out more at SouthernCycleWorks.com. We are excited for this next chapter for him and hope y’all will continue to support him just as you have supported us for the past 45 years.

The beauty we all enjoy in the outdoors of Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee has always been ruled by seasons, and as the season changes, it’s time for us to hit the trail.

After 45 years on Commonwealth Avenue in Bristol, Virginia, we will be closing our doors this summer.

The Cheers family hopes, from the bottom of our hearts, that we have added something meaningful to every person reading this. We hope many families have come together through our doors, and that you will continue to enjoy, protect, and cherish the outdoors we all love.

Through the years, we have made incredible friends and memories. We hope we will still see you, and more importantly, that you will continue to see each other out there, fishing on the South Holston, kayaking the Nolichucky, or riding the beautiful Mendota Trail.

Most importantly, thank you to all of our customers who have supported us for 45 years, through thick and thin. THANK YOU.

We do not have an exact closing date yet. Anyone who has been in the store recently may have noticed that we do not have new spring merchandise like usual. We loaded up for Trail Days this weekend in Damascus, and when we turned around and looked back at our normally healthy, bustling store, it just did not look the same. Sorry y’all, you are going to notice when you walk in.

Our closing date will be inventory dependent, and we will reevaluate after Trail Days.

It has been a joy to be your local source for everything outdoors, and an even greater joy to see your faces and hear your stories about your latest adventures. Y’all are what made MSL what it is.
