2026 CT POINTS SERIES RACE #1 - Carson Carriere's Race Weekend Review

RACE INFO: πŸ“πŸ“‹
This past Saturday, Reid and I raced at Silver City for a single day race which combined the iconic Lou Sherman Memorial Race with the "We are Silver City" Teams Race. Normally, these races are two separate events but with the Lou Sherman Memorial race being postponed due to rain, Saturday was the rain date. It was also the first event in the CT points Series which constists of four races across the two CT tracks.

QUALIFYING ⏱️
I battled a really tight car, and qualified 7th in the feature. Reid on the other hand, had a lot more cars in his division and qualified for a 6th place starting spot in the Lt. 160 B-Main race, where he would have to finish 4th or above to get into the feature.

REID'S B-MAIN RACE: πŸŽοΈπŸ”“
After some adjustments to Reid's car, he would go on to compete in the B-Main race, where he would battle 8 other cars for a spot in the feature. He had a really fast car and battled from the back of the pack up to the front. Consistency was key and while Reid most likely could've won, he ended up finishing third after a bad restart at the end of the race.

THE FEATURE RACES: πŸπŸ†
I started 7th in my Unrestricted Animal feature. My car felt completely different after a major set-up change that we made directly before. Going out for the feature with a brand new set-up and different weight placement was not ideal, but I trusted my set-up and I made my way to 4th place very quickly. From there, with about 25 laps to go I made the pass for 3rd, and I remained there for most of the race. With two laps to go, I had made a risky decision to go three-wide trying to pass for the lead and accidentally wrecked with the leader. It was a risky move but with only two laps to go it was either go big or go home and I decided to go for the win rather than accept a solid third place. I ended up losing my spot and had to battle from the back with two laps to go. At least we know the car is getting closer to "dialed in" and has a lot of potential for the rest of the season.

In Reidy's Lt. 160 feature, he was starting 9th. We had also made some minor adjustments to his car before his feature as well. It clearly paid off and his car was definitely a rocket. He got himself up all the way up to 5th from the back of the pack and would've got farther if he wasn't caught up in someone else's wreck with nowhere to go. He had to go into the pits to fix the damage which ultimately cost him the race. While I haven't looked at the official results yet, I believe he finished either 7th or 8th, which was still better than where he started.

Carson Carriere's Race Weekend Review:

"This past Saturday, we raced our first race of the season at Silver City Quarter Midget Track. We were in a race against time to get our cars built for this weekend since we have had some family stuff going on the past few weeks. Despite the challenge of building two race cars in a 16 hour time span, we were able to get it done thanks to the help of Brian Carriere, Mike Christopher, and the Double X Racing team. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to make it out on track.

Heading into my Unrestricted Animal heat race, I had zero seat time in the car and had to adapt to the best of my ability. Luckily for me, I was starting on the pole. When the green flag waved, my car launched out into the lead. By the third lap, I was riding around the track on the rev limiter the whole time. All this meant was that we had the wrong gear ratio in the car and we had no top end speed. With there being not much we could do, I tried my best to be fast while staying off the rev limiter as much as possible so I didn't blow the engine. As you would expect in this situation, I ended up getting passed by some of the other cars and finished second to last. Then I went on to make a gear change and get my car ready for the upcoming B-Mains race.

When I headed out for the B-Main race, I was starting 3rd and would have to finish in the top 4 to make it into the feature. Thankfully, we were able to solve the gear ratio problems that we were having earlier in the day. Now that I could flat foot the car without potentially blowing the engine, I realized that the set-up of the car was also very messed up. I ended up in two minor wrecks, neither of which were necessarily my fault, and when the opportunity arose, I went into the pits for adjustments. The car was still handling pretty bad, but I was still able to get to fourth place without spinning out to get into the Unrestricted Animal feature.

With a 10pm start, we had some time until the Unrestricted Animal feature. Using that time, I took initiative and made some of my own adjustments to the car that I felt it needed. From there I got ready to head out for a 40 lap feature with a cold track and even a bit of night time condensation on the race cars. Thanks to the help of Dad and Uncle Brian, I was strapped in and ready to go.

After roughly 10 warm up laps, we lined up double file to start the feature. I had a really good start and drove the car from 10th to 4th in the first lap. Unfortunately, the caution came out behind me and they decided to re-rack the field, and make us all go back to our original start positions. On the restart, I had another good launch and this time got up to fifth. By this point it was very clear that my adjustments had paid off and my car was dialed. This didn't last long though. Another driver tried to pass me without enough room and hit my left rear. During the contact, the snap ring which holds the left rear birdcage in place had somehow snapped and fell off. We didn't realize it was missing until after the race, so I raced the remaining 36 laps with a loose birdcage and a swaying axle. The car handled very poorly and I ended up finishing 9th after spinning out twice and going a lap down.

While it was not the results I was looking for, I still had a lot of fun and I can't wait to get that car fixed and dialed in for the rest of the season. Reid was supposed to start fifth in his heat race but he was having some steering problems due to a bent front axle and right spindle. He was automatically given a spot in the feature but with a delayed start due to rain, his Lt. 160 feature was postponed to a later date which is still TBD.

As always, I want to say a huge thank you to a few people.
