Camp Chill Day 1: We Survived! 😄🏒
Good evening, Camp Chill families!
Day 1 is officially in the books... and I'm happy to report that everyone survived! (Even after the very scary ghost tour... more on that later. 👻)
The morning started with campers arriving full of excitement, followed by our camp safety talk. We introduced all of our camp counselors and coaches before going around and introducing every camper. It was great seeing so many familiar faces returning this year, and we were especially excited to welcome lots of new campers into the Camp Chill family!
Next came one of our favorite parts of camp: The Do-It-Yourself Challenge! Every camper is encouraged to put on their own equipment before asking for help. If they get stuck, our counselors don't just do it for them—we teach them how to do it themselves. It's amazing how many campers discover they can do something once they know how! Everyone worked hard, showed patience, and gained a little more independence today. We were so proud of them.
Once everyone looked like hockey players instead of piles of equipment, we headed to Rink B for an awesome power skating session with Coach Harper. The campers worked on edge control, balance, core strength, and power skating before finishing with everyone's favorite game: Sharks and Minnows! There were lots of smiles, lots of skating, and thankfully, only pretend sharks.
After some well-earned snack, lunch, and break time, the campers convinced us to give them a "tour" of the rink. Somewhere along the way it mysteriously became... The Camp Chill Ghost Tour. No ghosts were actually spotted, but thanks to a few mischievous counselors turning off lights and making spooky noises outside the locker rooms, there was plenty of screaming, laughing, and nervous giggling. The campers immediately wanted to go again... and again... and again. We politely informed them that the ghosts had gone back to sleep.
We also squeezed in some air hockey before it was time to gear back up. The campers did an excellent job keeping their equipment organized (with a few friendly reminders), and that made getting ready for the second skate much smoother.
Back on the ice, the campers worked on edge work, hockey stops, and transitions. Everyone made great progress, and it was exciting to watch their confidence grow throughout the day.
Special shout-out to Gideon, who officially found his "skate legs!" He's flying around the ice now and looked fantastic this afternoon!
Of course, no Camp Chill day would be complete without some fun, so we finished the skate with ice sledding, which had everyone laughing from start to finish. Before leaving the ice, we also gathered everyone together for a fun camp photo shoot!
To wrap up the day, we came inside for Ice Hockey Bingo, which turned out to be a huge hit! We handed out prizes and took a break to celebrate Walker's 10th birthday! Happy Birthday, Walker! 🎉
Finally, we ended the day with one last favorite game: The Floor Is Lava! Somehow everyone escaped safely.
Overall, Day 1 was an incredible success. The campers worked hard, learned new skills, made new friends, laughed a lot, and had an absolute blast. Our counselors had just as much fun getting to know everyone, and it was a pleasure meeting all of your amazing kids.
Thank you for sharing them with us. We can't wait to do it all again tomorrow for Day 2!
See you in the morning!
