Is there any truth to this New US Government funded food pyramid rumor?

According to this new chart, Lucky charms cereal is ranked higher than whole eggs, whole milk or ground beed. Frosted mini wheats is at the top of the list. While there is nothing wrong with enjoying your favorite cereal once in a while, I don't believe any cereal holds more nutritional value than any animal source food.

This chart was put together by scientists using "food compass data" (a food rating system developed by Tufts University). They concluded that the algorithm used for this system is not well justified and produces results that exaggerate the risks associated with animal source foods and, underestimate the risks associated with ultra processed foods.

While its believed that this was not government funded, somebody funded it. And those who put this information out there are spreading misinformation.

What is a calorie?
Calories are a unit used to measure energy. Even without physical activity your body needs calories to carry out basic functions like breathing, circulating blood and maintaining body temperature. This is called your resting metabolic rate (RMR).

RMR accounts for the majority of your energy expenditure but also varies
depending on certain factors such as age, height, weight, gender, genetics etc.

Now that we understand what calories are, lets talk about your basal metabolic rate (BMR). This is the amount of calories your body requires to survive and sustain your current body composition.

To lose weight you need to burn more than your BMR. To gain weight you need to burn less than your BMR.
There are many ways to accomplish both. You can eat less or eat more, you can be more active or be less active. The most effective way we believe to accomplish this is to combine both methods. Exercise more and deduct a few calories from your diet would be a great start at trying to lose bodyfat.

Yes you can lose bodyfat and still enjoy life, eating the foods you love.
