We may be missing a few faces in these photos, but WOW, what a team we have!

This week, our Aquatics and Childcare staff have been putting in the work. ✨ In-service week may happen behind the scenes, but it’s one of the most important weeks of the year for our team.

Mental Health Walk 2026 & Community Park celebration 💚

Earlier this month community members joined our Parks & Recreation team for the 3rd Annual Walk for Awareness, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped make the day meaningful. Participants enjoyed a walk along Crocker Trail and then kept the fun going throughout the afternoon.💫

From music and mini golf to therapy dogs, interactive art, and YAC activities, our Community Park, post walk, was filled with connection, conversation, and community spirit.

Missed the event this year? Interactive boards are still available around town (Community Pool, Sunrise Room and City Hall), and a limited number of medals and YAC’s mental health bookmarks remain at the Parks & Rec Office while supplies last.

Last Thursday evening, the California Parks & Recreation Society, District 4, held their annual awards and recognition dinner to honor outstanding individuals in their communities. One of the Brisbane greats, Karen Cunningham, received an award honoring her for countless voluntary contributions to the community over several decades. 💫

Karen Cunningham is a dedicated public servant whose volunteer leadership has greatly enhanced parks, recreation, and human services in Brisbane. As a former Mayor, Councilmember, and Planning Commissioner, she contributed extensively on more than 23 boards and initiatives from 2010–2024. She prominently led the charge to make Brisbane an Age-Friendly City, advancing programs and plans that support older adults. Karen helped advocate for our community pool, dog park, and new library. She helped streamline the public art process, promoted health and safety projects, and championed improvements to pedestrian and bicycle safety. Her commitment, time, and leadership have left a lasting impact on the community. Thank you, Karen, for your many contributions to the Brisbane community. 🫶

✨ Thank You for Celebrating the 39th Annual Festival of Lights With Us! ✨

Our 39th annual event was a beautiful celebration of all Winter holidays—Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, St. Lucia’s Day, and Winter Solstice traditions. Together, we embraced the season of giving by enjoying one another’s company. We hope you’ll continue to sprinkle kindness to your neighbors not just during the holidays, but all year long.

A heartfelt thank-you to our Festival of Lights Subcommittee, P&R staff, our IDEA Committee representative and other City Departments for collaborating on this year’s meaningful event. Gratitude also to Julie’s Deli for contributing to the cocoa and cider, Sheng Kee Bakery for the holiday cookies, Silver Spot Nursery School for hosting wine and beer, Bright Rentals for the stage, and MoBowl Food Truck.
We were thrilled to kick off the celebration in song with a performance by Brisbane’s own Leanne Borghesi, and to welcome remarks from our Mayor, Cliff Lentz, who also recognized this year’s Volunteer of the Year, Hermann Reiss. Our Youth Advisory Committee also brought great energy to the night—leading the wish tree, cocoa & cider support, hint hint, those unforgettable inflatable trees (and other areas)! Shout out to our co-emcees Leanne and our very own Jovi!! Brisbane Dance Workshop was GOLDEN. And kudos, Lipman Middle School Orchestra! 🎶 Lion Sharon Boggs for sound coordination!
