To the runners, whether you crossed the finish line or not, battled the night, the heat, cutoffs, low points, or simply showed up to test yourself against the course — you became part of the story of the very first Badlands.🌙🤟🏼

We thank you for joining us. This ultramarathon was an adventure, a navigation exam, and a psychological test, and every mile out there helped make this debut year possible.

Hey all!

Many of you know the inaugural 2026 Badlands 50K & 100K sponsored by Running Lab Brighton at Island Lake Recreation Area is coming up THIS weekend.
We could still use a few helping hands throughout the event to help make the runners’ experience the best it can be!

Please consider joining us for some portion of the race and lending your support. Whether it’s helping at course marking, aid stations, directing runners, timing, setup, teardown, or simply keeping exhausted ultrarunners emotionally stable at 3am… we’d love to have you.
As a volunteer, Blackwood Trail Racing will provide:
A Blackwood volunteer tech hoodie (see silly photo shoot my wife and I just did in the wood 15 min ago)
$20/hr in race credit toward a future Blackwood event
Chance to win one of three $100 Gift Cards to Running Lab Brighton
Volunteer that logs the most hours will get a free pair of Altra Running shoes
And we'll feed you =)
Normal Volunteer shifts range from:
Saturday, May 16th @ 6pm
through
Sunday, May 17th @ 6pm
with Course Markers and Sweeps starting a little before and ending a little after those times.

Come join us for a great night & day in the woods and help us launch this ridiculous thing properly.
