Operation Cowboy , April/May. 1945. Under General Patton.

In the final days of World War II, an extraordinary rescue mission unfolded—one that few people know, but none should forget.

Colonel Charles H. Reed (this picture was taken in 1942) played a critical role in Operation Cowboy, a daring effort led by U.S. forces to save the world-famous Lipizzaner horses from certain destruction. These magnificent animals, symbols of centuries-old European heritage, were caught in the chaos of a collapsing N**i regime—at risk of being lost forever.

With courage, coordination, and a deep respect for history, Colonel Reed helped lead American troops behind enemy lines to secure and evacuate the horses to safety. It wasn’t just a military mission—it was a mission to preserve culture, beauty, and a living legacy.

Because of Operation Cowboy, the Lipizzaners survived—and continue to inspire audiences around the world today.
