Respect the ocean friends. Think safety first. A message from our friends at SC Fire & EMS.

PUBLIC SAFETY MESSAGE

Surf City Fire & EMS is urging residents and visitors to stay out of the ocean until lifeguards are on duty for the season, beginning June 19 in Surf City.

Over the weekend, Surf City Fire & EMS responded to four water rescue incidents involving swimmers caught in dangerous rip currents. Tragically, one of these incidents resulted in a drowning.

Rip currents can be powerful, unpredictable, and life-threatening, even for experienced swimmers. Without lifeguards on duty, rescue efforts may be delayed, increasing the risk of serious injury or death.

For your safety, please do not enter the water until guarded beaches are open and staffed with lifeguards. We encourage everyone to respect ocean conditions, heed all safety warnings, and help us prevent further tragedies.

Stay safe, and remember: Only swim at guarded beaches when lifeguards are on duty.

CONGRATULATIONS Brad Yoder on catching and releasing a 33” (25.5” girth) black drum. He used shucked surf clams leftover from our last tournament on May 16. Good and STINKY! Brad along with Michael “BUBBA” Williams led the team to a 4th PLACE finish in today’s WSFC Tournament. Along with a shark, Bubba did a fine job catching and releasing a cownose ray.

THANK YOU to our host, The Women’s Surf Fishing Club and The Association of Surf Angling Clubs for another great event! And to our sponsor BURNS HONDA, THANK YOU!!

CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners. The ASAC schedule resumes in September and we will see you out there.
