People struggle with reaching their goals because they fear the sacrifice.
They worry about the time they lose out on going to the gym. The money they waste on healthier food. The extra energy it takes to plan out their meals.
They fear the sacrifice of social norms. Needing accommodations at a party. Deciding not to go out because they have to wake up early. Turning down alcohol in social settings. And one that doesn’t get talked about enough, the fear of breaking out of the identity you have established in your peer group.
People want to reach a certain result, but fear the work it takes to reach their goals.
We tend to forget that we sacrifice something regardless.
You sacrifice the body you wanted for the last 8 summers. You sacrifice the confidence you lack when you try on clothes. The healthy body you desire to live in without all the aches and pains. The healthy body you desire to live in the next decade of your life.
More importantly, you are sacrificing your children, who watch what you do, and pick up the same habits. You sacrifice them going through the same struggles you do. You sacrifice the quality of life you have with your grandkids and in your retirement.
The journey is hard regardless, choose your hard. There is sacrifice no matter which way you cut it, so which sacrifices will you make?
