Sherwood Forest Ladies Golf League

Monday, October 6th, was the Sherwood Ladies Golf League End of Season Championship Game and Luncheon. A little cloudy with a bit of drizzling rain, but that didn't keep the ladies home! Marcia Bryant, Diane Garvey, Tina Nutty and Georgia Osterc, the 4 ladies with the lowest handicaps, teed off on the back nine to determine this year's Club Champion. The rest of us picked 3 clubs from our bags and headed out on the front nine.

Diane Garvey repeated her win from last year and retains the coveted hand stitched Champion's sweater and will have her name added to the League Trophy. Congratulations Diane!! Sandy Gollnick took home the win in the 3 Club game. Way to go Sandy!

After play, the ladies headed over to the Cedar Mountain Outpost for lunch and presentation of the End of the Season Awards. Winners are as follows:
Most Improved Front 9: Sue Wojcik
Most Improved Back 9: Lois Bollini
Most Eagles: Marcia Bryant
Most Birdies: Georgia Osterc
Most Chip Ins: Lois Bollini, Marcia Bryant, Diane Garvey, Mary Law, and Carol Mitchell
Individual winnings for eagles, birdies and chip-ins as well as door prizes were also given out.

It was a great year and a whole lot of fun enjoying the outdoors spending time with friends! The ladies will continue to play each Monday throughout the fall and winter as weather allows. This weeks winner was Gloria Clouse who won the game of Just Play Golf. The lo net winner of the round was Sue Wojcik in a 3 way tie breaker with Sandy E. and Sandy G. Georgia had the low gross score after a tie break with Gloria Clouse. Congratulations to all the winners!

It was a wonderful morning to play golf with 15 players this morning coming out for a round of Stableford golf on the front nine. Stableford is a scoring system that counts points instead of strokes and the player with the highest points wins the game. The points are determined as follows: Hole in one: 5 points; Eagle: 4 points; Birdie: 3 points; Par: 2 points; Bogie: 1 point and Double bogie or higher: 0 points.

Our game winner today was determined by a double tiebreaker in which Marcia Bryant beat Louise Stroup by having a better score on the 5th hole. However, Louise posted the lowest net score. Marcia posted the lowest gross score! Congratulations!

It was a great day for golf although a little buggy out! We had 12 golfers tee off for a "Tee to Green" game on the back nine. The winning team was Georgia, Lois, Sandra E. and Carolyn N. Georgia also posted the lowest Net score and Peggy Baldwin had the lowest gross score.

September 9th Game was"Team Low Net" with 11 players coming out for our Fall 10am start. Gloria Clouse, Sandy Eidson, Marcia Bryant and Lois Bolini made up the winning team. After tie breaks in both categories, Gloria Clouse posted the Lo Net and Marcia Bryant posted the Lo Gross scores.

Wow, it's already September! Where did the summer go? Today was a beautiful day to play golf. Eleven of us played Las Vegas Scramble on the back nine. In this game the team opening drive is determined by a roll of a die. It was a fun game and our teams were very evenly matched, with the team of Gloria Clouse, Mary Law and Carol Mitchell coming out on top. Congratulations ladies!

Sherwood Women's Golf League Results for 8/18 & 8/25

Monday, Aug 18th, after two weeks of rain out, players were back on the course, a bit wet but playing golf! Seventeen players came out to play "Like Handicap" on the back nine. Although many of the ladies were knocking a bit of rust and mildew off their game, others had there game on! Georgia Osterc was game winner with a 33 and Lois Bollini was the low net winner.

On Aug 25th, and finally a beautiful day, 12 golfers played "Irish Low Ball", a team game where the team score is made up of the best score on Hole 1, the best 2 scores on all the other par threes, and the best 3 scores on the par 4s. Winners were the team of Joan Grant, Mary Law, Tina Nutty and Sue Wojcik. Joan Grant posted the low Net score and Diane Garvey had the low Gross Score.

BEWARE If you are traveling Hwy 276 Greenville Hwy from the SC state line to Brevard, most speed limits have been lowered. Seven soggy league members plus returning former member/guest Mel Kassab showed up for today’s scramble. With such few players we decided on a “just play golf” format. With optimism our two foursomes teed off on 18 and 10 only to feel the mist turn into a downpour and terminate our round. The team on 18, played out their hole in the pouring rain with Pepe shouting a birdie! Several players decided to head to Cedar Mountain Outpost for a cup of coffee, breakfast and socialization. After the rain delay, Sue, Diane, Tina and Mel headed out on the back nine. Our birthday girl, Sue Wojcik, had three birdies not easy to do in the wet conditions!
With lots of rain in the forecast, let's hope the sun comes out for next week.

It was a warm one out there on Monday morning! Beautiful and sunny, but that humidity was high! In spite of the heat, we had 16 avid golfers playing the front nine. Our game was "Drop 1 high and Drop 1 Low score"; the winner had the lowest score of the 7 remaining holes. Carol Mitchell was the game winner; Peggy Baldwin posted the Low Net and Deb Hinecewicz posted the Low Gross. Way to go ladies!

17 players came out for a beautiful morning of golf this week. We played the back nine and our game was "4 Putts", which meant it didn't matter if you went into the water on 12 or duffed your tee shots, as long as you putted well! The winning team was Georgia Osterc, Vicki Roberts. and Sandy Gollnick. Tina Nutty posted the low gross and Lois Bollini recorded the Low Net! Nice playing ladies!
