Okinawan Matsumura Seito Shorin-ryu Karate
“Achieving Strength through Harmony of the Mind, Body & Spirit”! Since 1994 OKBBA has been dedicated to providing high quality martial arts training programs. And although we honor our martial art by teaching traditional styles dating back centuries, we’re dynamic and committed to seeking new and innovative ways to enthuse and excite our students. We b

uild confidence through achievement, by providing an environment conducive to positive relationships, and the fostering of self-discipline, self-confidence and self-respect. Harmony of Mind, Body and Spirit (Shin, Karada, Kokoro) lay at the center of effective Martial Arts, or any pursuit for that matter. As we mold ourselves, and harmony develops, an almost unlimited strength and power potential emerges…strength and power of the Mind, Body and Spirit! At OKBBA we strive to help our students find a path to harmony by developing strength (of Mind, Body, Soul), through hard work and lots of fun! Benefits of Karate

Martial arts as a regular exercise have proven to have a positive influence on both our psychological and physical well-being. The martial arts can be practiced by everyone, regardless of race, gender, age, or religious beliefs with exceptional benefits and results. Aside from physical benefits, research that directly compares martial arts with “regular” exercise shows greater and more diverse psychological benefits through martial arts training. Research has also shown that Judo and Karate lead to a more “easy going” attitude and decreases the rates of violence and depression in youth. Tai Chi has proven to decrease anger, insomnia, and nightmares, while increasing the practitioner's positive outlook on life. A proper martial arts program is more effective than a normal exercise program because it’s more comprehensive and diverse, and it works to harmonize the mind, body and spirit. Benefits include Increased: Physical Fitness/ Health; Stamina; Breathing capacity; Endurance; Flexibility; Balance; Posture; Muscle tone/coordination; Positive Attitude/ Spirit; Self-confidence; Self-discipline; Self-reliance; Self-respect/esteem; Mental agility. Decreased: Blood Pressure; Aggression; Hostility; Anxiety; Stress and Depression. After taking just a few lessons, you'll see why OKBBA is Bremerton’s first choice for martial arts. We invite your family to join ours, and we look forward to meeting you soon! Hohan Soken, one of our masters (1889-1982) once said, “Karate training has no limits; step by step, study by study, and one day in the future you will undoubtedly enter the temple of Shaolin” (become a Master). OKBBA is a Washington State Non-Profit Corporation. Mission and Purpose:

Dear students, family, fellow artists and friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you, that after 22 consecutive years of business, we are closing our "storefront" currently located in the Sheridan Plaza at 2817 Wheaton Way, Suite 210, Bremerton, WA.

We've faced many obstacles and challenges during our 22 years. In the past, with everyone working together, we were able to “save" our school from closure. However, with the new tax laws, the ever changing martial arts community, and the lives of the instructors and students, we face a myriad of issues in keeping our business open through these difficult times.
We appreciate the continued support over the years and look forward to the future with optimism. Although we're closing our store front, the corporate entity of OKBBA will remain in operation for the foreseeable future.

Students:
Just because our store front is closing, does not mean you should stop training; we, will never stop. We hope that you will have the desire to continue training somewhere. There are other schools within our local area which have been in business for many years and offer quality classes. If you would like suggestions, please just ask. Also, as karateka, you have a responsibility to help others and improve yourself in the process. Please stay involved with the martial arts, for your benefit and the benefit of others.

It is said that 1 in 10,000 make it to black belt. It’s more appropriate to say, 1 in 5000 will make it to a black belt and only 1 in 10,000 will stay, dedicate his/her life to teaching what he/she has learned and to help others, as selflessly as possible. When life throws us a hook punch, we must learn to absorb it and move into a new position to further better ourselves; "roll with the punches". And as Karateka, we are taught to adapt to every situation, this is just another one we must adapt to.

Regular classes will be held until June 30, 2016, there will not be any going away party or any special event. If you would like to attend for one more month, that would help us to account for some of the extra costs needed while closing a business. Otherwise, we thank you for your patronage and hope that we may cross paths in the future. We will be liquidating several items in order to make extra money as well. Most items will be on a donation basis; however, some items will be in a package deal.

Thank you again for your understanding, support, thoughts, and prayers through these difficult times. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you feel like helping in any way, please ask. We may need a few extra hands.

May we grow even more through discouraging moments such as these. For as few as we may face, we must see the best in every moment and count it all as joy. There is something to be learned at every turn, be ready.

Sincerely your's in Budo,

Jared Shinkaruk

Good Leadership takes a special person, with compassion, integrity, tenacity, lack of ego and hard work dedicated to the individual, and team growth...easy to see why we have so many "bosses". Be a Leader people!

Among the many aspects of being a "true" and great Sensei, we find that being a Sensei sometimes is rather like parenting. Most of the time, until a child becomes a parent themselves, they have no real "frame of reference" of what it is to be a parent. Simply, they don't have the experience and they're usually unable to see the "forest for the trees". Similarly, students often don't really understand what a great Sensei actually gives to, or sacrifices for thier students. However, when a student becomes a black belt and hopefully a "true" Sensei, their eyes have opened and they now understand and appreciate the loyalty, dedication and compassion thier teacher has bestowed upon them. Similarly, once a child becomes a parent, a whole new meaning of the word "parent" should become clear, and (in a healthy relationship) they should finally see what their parents have actually given and sacrificed for them. And a final wisdom? That the teacher becomes the best possible Sensei, and passes it all to thier students...helping to make them even better than themselves...and so on....

Congratulations to Sensei Jared Shinkaruk for his hard earned reward and recognition. Jared has earned his place in the Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa. I firmly believe that Jared's study of karate has directly contributed to his academic success. At the OKBBA we guide our students to become the "whole" person, by developing mind, body and spirit. Jared continues to "walk the talk" and presents himself as a living example for his students. Our motto is simple, however the hard work associated with its attainment is not... "Achieving Strength Through Harmony of Mind, Body and Spirit." Strength is expressed as both internal and external. Harmony comes from learning to balance the formula of mind, body and spirit as a peaceful warrior. Academics is just a piece... Congratulations again Sensei Jared on a job well done!

Hello! I hope everyone's holidays are going well! I know I've enjoyed time with my family and have taken time to finish projects in desperate need of completion.
I know a class was proposed for tomorrow, however, the dojo is still undergoing maintenance, so...we will not be holding class tomorrow after all. :( My apologies! However, we will be returning to class in one week on the 5th of January! I'm very excited to get back in class and see all of your smiling faces again. In the mean time, please practice what you know! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at anytime. Thank you for your patience and understanding! Talk to you soon!
