"In general, Karate practice was much more difficult than it is now. Young people of today's generation don't like training very hard or doing extensive repetitions of basic techniques on a continual basis. Back in the old days, it was not uncommon to repeat the same movements over and over again, many times, without question. We had the experience of a much more punishing instruction schedule. At that time, if you couldn't keep up with this type of training regime, you could just leave, and many people did quit due to the severity. They didn't really want you there either if you couldn't keep the pace, but if you wanted to train strongly and become strong, then you could continue to train this way." - Master Keigo Abe
