There’s a lot of excitement around the next skill, the next level, and how quickly a dancer is progressing.
But some of the most important work in dance is happening in the moments that don’t look especially exciting. 💃🏽
Building strength. Refining technique. Repeating the basics. Learning how to use their body well. Gaining the confidence to try something difficult.
Those things take time—and they’re worth taking the time to do well.
And isn’t raising great humans a lot like that, too? 💜
We don’t expect a child to suddenly become confident, resilient, kind, or responsible. Those qualities are built slowly through hundreds of little moments: being encouraged to try again, learning to handle disappointment, practicing kindness, being given responsibility, making mistakes and having the chance to try differently next time.
Just like in dance, the foundation matters. The things we’re teaching and reinforcing now may not look significant in the moment, but they’re shaping who that child will become years from now.
That’s why we don’t want dancers rushing through their foundation just to reach the next milestone. We want them developing the skills, strength, and confidence that will support them for years to come.
Because great dancers aren’t built in a hurry.
And great humans aren’t either.
