A lot of folks have been asking about the Hammerfest Triathlon recently. There will be no race this year, again mainly due to the ongoing road and bridge construction in the area. The future of the race is also uncertain though, due to a number of factors. We've had such fantastic support from friends, family and the triathlon community over the years and I miss this race too. Thank you to everyone for all the great years!

Today we're posting an announcement we had hoped would not be made.

Ongoing road repairs and bridge reconstruction on our Hammerfest bicycle course leave us with no choice but to cancel the 2022 Hammerfest Triathlon. Not only do the circumstances cause serious safety issues, they also create nightmarish traffic logistics on the roads leading to and from our race venue - the Owenego Club, our generous and supportive host of Hammerfest. Though we have considered alternative course layouts as well as other race venues, we are unable to replicate the “Hammerfest feel” in a manner that meets the safety and logistical standards we strive for in producing an athlete-friendly triathlon.

We hope you will continue to support Brian’s Hope (www.brianshope.org) and keep the 2023 Hammerfest on your schedule for next year. We wish you a safe and personally rewarding race season and year.

As always, if you have questions or would like to reach us, please comment or post. We thank you for your support and loyalty to Hammerfest and Brian’s Hope.

We have made the unfortunate decision to cancel the 2021 Hammerfest Triathlon. There will be two construction projects taking place on the bike course this Fall making the logistics too complex and unsafe for the race to take place. We are disappointed but plan to be back in 2021!

Keep Brian and the Kelley family in your thoughts today. Hope to see you all in 2021!

Hammerfest Athletes and Friends:

Regrettably, and due to a confluence of circumstances, we are canceling this year’s Hammerfest Triathlon that was scheduled for September 20, 2020. Our decision rests mainly on vital safety concerns for athletes, volunteers and the many spectators who have all contributed to make Hammerfest one of the most enjoyable and popular triathlons in Southern New England. Most importantly, over its 20+ years, Hammerfest has been a catalyst for major, life-altering change in the struggle to stop the progression of Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). Our main benefactor, Brian’s Hope, has led the way to effect nationwide changes that have improved the lives of ALD patients and their families.

On behalf of Brian’s Hope and the Kelley family (Brian, Jean, Jack Kathleen & Patrick), please accept our heartfelt thanks for your continued support of Brian’s Hope in its mission to stop the progression and deleterious effects of ALD. With your participation throughout Hammerfest’s 20+ years, the event provides a platform to effect measurable and meaningful progress combatting ALD. With Hammerfest as a partner and through its leadership, Brian’s Hope has funded novel research to achieve breakthrough treatments for patients, broadened an awareness of ALD and promoted nationwide newborn screening for ALD.

Nowhere has Brian’s Hope been more influential than in expanding nationwide newborn screening for ALD. In 2015 only NY and CT were screening newborns. Now, through the efforts of Brian’s Hope and other advocates across the country, 16 states and Washington, D.C. are testing babies for ALD. Because many of these States have some of the highest birth rates, over 50% of babies born in the US are being tested. By the time Hammerfest 2021 rolls around, we hope to report that even more States will be testing newborns.

On behalf of the entire Kelley family, please accept our heartfelt gratitude for embracing Brian’s Hope as it continues to spread ripples of change, courage and hope to ALD families and throughout the entire ALD community.

Keep Hammering and see you in 2021,

Race Productions, LLC (Ron, Mike, Scott & Margit) Brian’s Hope (Brian, Jean, Jack, Kathleen & Patrick)

Thank you everyone that came out to race today and support Brian's Hope! It was a beautiful day and I hope everyone had a great time.

Results are posted at fasttracktiming.com and we hope to post some photos to our page in a week or so. I found what appears to be a mens small Xterra wetsuit in the transition area, and unfortunately there is a mens medium/tall sleevelss Roka wetsuit missing. If you grabbed the wrong one by mistake please let me know. Also, if you mistakenly grabbed a pair of mens white bike shoes we're also looking for those!

Lastly, a racer had an unfortunate incident in the parking lot after the race (likely between 9:20 and 10:30). The rear bumper of her grey BMW station wagon was hit and significantly dented by a white vehicle. If you were involved in this accident, or saw anything, can you please contact me, or her at 860-395-7302? It would really be appreciated.

Thanks again for your support of the Hammerfest Triathlon and Brian's Hope! Hope to see you again next year.
