I never make videos like this but I absolutely had to in this instance. Huge shout out to for sending me the 13” Flatside glide in Matte Carpe to grind on in pursuit of giants. This is a legendary bait from a legendary bait maker and angler. These are extremely hard to come by (for a good reason) and I’m fortunate enough to add this to the bait arsenal with the hope of landing an east coast DD. I will be throwing this exclusively on the Douglas XMatrix 807F-D. With baits this big, you truly need a rod that effortlessly does the work to prevent injury and fatigue and can handle and tame large predatory fish with ease when hooked up. I can confidently say that the 807F-D stands up to the challenge and then some! Very excited to log serious hours with this incredible piece of functional art. Some days are beyond comprehension. This was one of them. To be able to experience a 49 lb 13 oz bag with .pearlguideservice anchored by my first two DDs (10lbs 5oz and 10 lbs 11oz respectively) and John’s 11lb 1oz fish was surreal. 40 plus fish landed in the boat with an average of 7-8lbs. I’ve never seen anything like it (and I’ve got it all on GoPro)!!! Clear Lake is literally Jurassic Park. Every fish was caught on a $99 ERA 6103XF. These rods fish way above their price point and tamed the some of the most ferocious largemouth that exist with grace. If you are a serious bass angler and you don’t go take a trip to Clear Lake you are cheating yourself. The wealth of knowledge, expertise, passion and experience between .pearlguideservice and is unrivaled. These are some of the most dialed in, intense anglers and outdoor enthusiasts existing in this world. They all fish Douglas Rods. There is a reason. Book trips with them. Learn from the best. I had an absolute blast on my inaugural Minnesota fishing excursion. What a cool state: there are an abundance of lakes and an undeniably passionate fishing culture exists. I wish I had more time to explore. We had two days of 130 fish days and put the gamut of the Douglas lineup through the paces. The highlight for me was charming these Minnesota Snakes on the TK and Evoke 4.0. The XMatrix DXC 784F is really a special sleeper rod that more anglers need to experience. I would argue that its unique taper, lightness and balance make it one of the best 2.5 oz and under heavy utility rods on the market. It makes throwing these larger moving baits so enjoyable and its efficacy is unreal. If you hook a fish it’s most likely hitting the deck of the boat. Thanks so much to Douglas Pro and his son for facilitating this trip and guide for getting us around some quality fish. Until we meet again!!!

Had an absolute blast finesse river fishing for mini football smallies from the banks of a prominent NY river a while back (I’m sure you can figure it out). Douglas XMatrix Spinning rods were positively clutch and helped me hook and land countless fish. The balance in this series is truly unmatched. I had such a blast I can’t even express it in words! Fishing in current is incredible. I applied some techniques I picked up from my salmon and steelhead brethren and the results far exceeded my expectations. These river fish fight way above their weight class and displayed some incredible acrobatics.
