As a long time supporter of KBF we couldn't agree more with the sentiment expressed here. There are no short cuts when it comes to safety on any race hill and there is absolutely NO difference in obstacles and hazards presented on race day vs. training days. Educate volleys, hire the necessary staff, get the kids involved with the process and make safety priority #1. Thanks KBF!
At the Kelly Brush Foundation, we believe safety in alpine ski racing needs to be prioritized above all else. Our number one message is that if anyone โ athlete, coach, official, parent or spectator โ sees something not right, you say something. The recent World Cup races in Semmering, Austria highlight the importance of the snow surface being a vital part of the safety equation. We have been heartened by preliminary work with us and their commitment to evaluate and update safety practices and we hope this will be another area of focus. Thankfully there were no major injuries from these races, but we canโt wait for a serious injury or death to make change. We deeply appreciate the leadership from and for calling this out and being advocates for safety. A culture that values speaking up about safety is what the KBF is trying to create.
