⭐ HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR SLIDE ATTACK ⭐

One of the biggest differences between a slide approach and a regular approach is what your ARMS are doing. 🏐

When you’re hitting a slide, you’re literally running after the ball. That means you should be pumping your arms like you’re sprinting instead of throwing both arms back like a traditional approach.

To maximize your jump:

✅ Drive your plant foot into the ground HEEL TO TOE
✅ Push explosively off the ball of your foot
✅ Drive your right knee up aggressively to help create lift and power

And don’t forget about your LEFT ARM!

Your left arm should reach high toward the ball to help you:
⭐ Stay tall through contact
⭐ Create better body control
⭐ Generate more rotational power in the air

Another key: jump UP first.

The more vertical you can stay through contact, the more control you’ll have over your swing. After contact, let your momentum carry you out of the attack.

Simple formula:
🏐 Run hard
🏐 Push against the ground
🏐 Swing fast

If your slide is set off the net, don’t force a sharp angle. Most slides only see one solid blocker, so look for:
⭐ A deep swing to the back court
⭐ A well-placed tip
⭐ Open court opportunities

Smart hitters score more points than predictable hitters. 💜

This camp is designed for athletes ages 12–14 with skill levels ranging from fairly new players to intermediate athletes with some club or school volleyball experience. ⭐

The camp will be run by me, Coach Angel — owner and founder of A-League Volley — and will focus on skill development, fundamentals, confidence, and game growth in a positive training environment.

One hour. One adjustment. One BIG transformation. 🏐⭐

Today’s focus: a RIGHT-handed hitter attacking LINE from the right side on an INSIDE set.

One of the biggest keys?
As a right-handed hitter, you need to be MORE INSIDE than the ball to create your highest contact point and properly work around the block.

The MORE inside the set becomes, the MORE “thumb down” your contact needs to be if you want to drive the ball line effectively.

This shot is a game changer because it:
⭐ Opens up your offensive options
⭐ Helps you work around blockers
⭐ Creates smarter scoring angles
⭐ Adds range to your attacking toolbox

And remember — this does NOT always have to be a power swing. Placement, finesse, and vision can be just as effective.

Stick to the basics:
✔ Fast last 2 steps
✔ Aggressive backswing & upswing
✔ Non-hitting hand UP
✔ Keep your shoulder OPEN
✔ Rotate your shoulder outward on the way to contact
✔ Finish THUMB DOWN to attack line

Details matter. Repetition matters. Growth happens in the small adjustments. 💜

🏐 Coach Ava will be the Lead Coach for the A-League Volley Beach Volleyball Program this June—and she’s officially opening up private lessons on the sand!

Coach Ava Booth, a Sarasota native, developed her love for beach volleyball right here along the Gulf Coast. She’s a 2022 SSAC State Champion from The Classical Academy of Sarasota and is now competing at the Division I level at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The sand is calling… and we’re answering. 🏐💜

The A-League Volley Beach Program officially launches this June in Bradenton, FL — giving athletes the opportunity to expand their game beyond the indoor court and train in a whole new environment.

📍 Location: GT Bray Rec Center
📅 When: Every Wednesday in June
⏰ Time: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

This program is designed for athletes of all ages and skill levels looking to improve movement, strength, and all-around volleyball IQ through beach training.

Progress you can see 🏐💜

From before ➡️ after, this middle blocker is leveling up in all the right ways:
⭐ Developing an angled approach instead of attacking straight on
⭐ Staying open to the setter for better timing and vision
⭐ Learning to plant and jump UP, not drift forward
⭐ Building a fast, efficient transition to be ready for quick tempo sets

This is what intentional training looks like — breaking habits, building athletes.

🏐 Defensive Transition Down the Line

As the game gets faster and stronger, it’s imperative that we find athletic, simple, and effective ways to move, especially in defensive transition.

When digging down the line, it’s one of the quickest moves in volleyball and one of the easiest moments to get caught on our heels if we’re not disciplined with our movement.

Common mistakes (DON’Ts):
❌ Opening up to the sideline — similar to hitting transition, we never want to turn our backs to the setter or our team. If the ball catches us off guard, we want to still give ourselves a chance to dig it to our friends.
❌ Taking too many steps — there simply isn’t time when defending down the line.
❌ Split stepping too early — this limits our explosiveness to the ball.
❌ Standing up while transitioning — that’s how we get stuck on our heels at contact.

What we want instead (DO’s):
✔️ Neutral hips while backing up — avoid swiveling.
✔️ Chest slightly forward so our weight stays on our toes.
✔️ Be stopped at contact, even if we didn’t reach the exact defensive spot we wanted.

Defense is about giving your team a playable ball, even when things happen fast.

Middle hitters… if you’re too athletic to be hitting tape, this is for you. 🏐

One of the biggest reasons middles clip tape when cutting to Zone 1?
➡️ Waiting for the ball to fall
➡️ Dragging the ball down trying to “guide” it
➡️ Letting the ball dictate the swing

With a temp set, you have to be ready EARLY. As soon as that ball leaves the setter’s hands, you should already be in your window. The faster you contact, the less time the block and defense have to react. ⭐

Focus on:
⚡️Explode off the floor — fast backswing, fast upswing, strong plant.
⚡️Elbow UP (not back) so your hand is in the window early.
⚡️Whole hand on the ball + immediate wrist snap to drive it DOWN.

Your wrist snap is your weapon. Use it. 💜
