I’m not sure how many people know this, but Montana has an off road route that stretches nearly 1,000 miles through some of the most incredible scenery the state has to offer.

Buyer beware… you won’t wait in line to get into a national park, you won’t be sharing a picnic table while eating an overpriced burger, and your photos probably won’t be blocked by a massive RV.

It’s just you, your rig, nature and seemingly endless trails leading to some truly incredible places.

This is Montana.

The Big Thing at is nothing short of an incredible event!
The OffRoad Course is straight up the hill from the event and offers a ton of difference types of obstacles.
People might say it isn’t very challenging but I have a different opinion, it isn’t rock crawling and I don’t think it is meant to be. It’s a challenge course to introduce the driver to different obstacle scenarios to learn both the limitations and capabilities of THEIR rig.
As in this scenario with Josh and Vanessa learned a valuable lesson with their extremely capable Land Cruiser FJ80. Which they have driven the entire length of the Pan-American Highway in.

However the lesson was that without lockers and in specific off camber rutted out areas, their 80 might struggle. But more importantly they learned how to overcome the slight handicap of not having front and rear lockers and being a bit overweight. The skill is carrying enough momentum to get you through the obstacle but not too much to damage anything. It’s a delicate dance and Josh nailed it after carefully feeling out how much right pedal to apply. It should also be noted that we did the same obstacle again in the second lap and he sailed right through!
