TRAIN FOR MONTANA: TRAIL RUNNING EDITION

Build the strength to run stronger.

Trail running demands more than just endurance.
It requires lower-body strength, stability, balance, and control — especially when you're climbing, descending, and navigating uneven terrain.

This week we highlighted 3 key exercises to help you run stronger:

🦵 Seated Calf Raise
Build calf strength to support powerful push-offs and ankle stability on the trail.

🍑 3D Glute Machine
Build glute strength and stability to help control your hips and navigate uneven terrain.

💪 Hamstring Curl
Strengthen your hamstrings to support downhill control and endurance on the trail.
Your next adventure starts in the gym.

Don’t just run Montana. Train for it.

💪 Fluid Motion Fitness Tip:
Keep lifting year-round. Strong legs and stable hips can help you move with more control and confidence on every trail.

Your glutes are the foundation of efficient trail running. They help keep your pelvis level, your knees aligned, and your body stable as you navigate rocks, roots, loose gravel, and changing terrain. When those muscles fatigue, your running form begins to break down, making every mile feel more difficult and increasing the stress on your knees and lower back.

That's why the 3D Glute Machine is one of our favorite exercises for trail runners at Fluid Motion Fitness.

By strengthening the glutes through multiple planes of movement, this exercise helps prepare your body for the real demands of Montana's trails.

The 3D Glute Machine helps you:

🏃 Improve hip stability for smoother, more efficient strides

🦵 Increase balance and control on uneven terrain

⛰️ Build stronger glutes for more powerful climbs

💪 Reduce stress on your knees while lowering your risk of common running injuries

Whether you're training for your next trail race or simply enjoying an evening run after work, stronger glutes help every mile feel more confident, controlled, and enjoyable.

💡 Fluid Motion Tip: Focus on slow, controlled movement throughout each repetition and avoid using momentum. Quality movement builds the hip strength and stability that translate directly to the trail.

Train for Montana. Train twice. Adventure all week.

Every stride begins and ends with your feet.

Whether you're climbing Drinking Horse, descending The "M" Trail, or exploring the trails in Hyalite, your calves work with every step to push you forward, absorb impact, and help stabilize your ankles on uneven terrain.

That's why Seated Calf Raises are one of our favorite exercises for trail runners at Fluid Motion Fitness.

By strengthening the calf muscles, this exercise helps prepare your body for the repetitive demands of trail running and can improve both efficiency and endurance on the trail.

Seated calf raises help you:
🏃 Generate more power with every stride

🦵 Improve ankle strength and stability

🌲 Reduce lower leg fatigue during long runs

💪 Build the endurance needed for Montana's rolling hills and technical trails

Whether you're training for your first trail race or enjoying an evening run after work, stronger calves help every mile feel more comfortable.

💡 Fluid Motion Tip: Pause briefly at the top of each repetition and lower the weight slowly. Controlling the lowering phase builds the strength your calves need to absorb impact on downhill sections.

Train for Montana. Train twice. Adventure all week.

Whether you're running Sourdough Canyon, the "M" Trail, Leverich, Drinking Horse, or winding through Hyalite, trail running in southwest Montana is about much more than logging miles.

Every climb challenges your strength. Every rocky descent tests your balance. Every root, rock, and uneven step asks your body to stabilize before you take the next stride.

At Fluid Motion Fitness, we don't train just to make you stronger in the gym—we train to help you move with confidence on the trails you love.

Strength training helps trail runners:
🏃 Generate more power climbing hills

🦵 Improve balance and stability on technical terrain

💪 Strengthen your hips, knees, and ankles to better absorb impact

🌲 Reduce fatigue so you can finish your run feeling strong

The goal isn't spending every day in the gym.

It's spending just two strength sessions each week building the strength that allows you to enjoy more miles, more trails, and more Montana adventures.

Because the best trail runs aren't measured by your pace—they're measured by how much fun you have getting outside.

Train for Montana. Train twice. Adventure all week.

TRAIN FOR MONTANA: MOUNTAIN BIKING EDITION
Build the strength to ride stronger.

Mountain biking demands more than just endurance.

It requires lower-body strength, power, stability, and core control — especially when you're climbing, descending, and navigating technical terrain.

This week we highlighted 3 key exercises to help you ride stronger:

🦵 Leg Extension
Build quad strength to power climbs and improve control on the trail.

🏋️ Leg Press
Develop lower-body strength and endurance for longer, stronger rides.

💪 Incline Sit-Up
Build core strength to improve stability and control on the bike.
Your next adventure starts in the gym.

Don’t just ride Montana. Train for it.

💪 Fluid Motion Fitness Tip:
Keep lifting year-round. A strong lower body and core can help you ride with more control, tackle challenging terrain, and enjoy more time on the trail.

08/07/2026

Your legs generate the power—but your core transfers it to the bike.

A strong core helps you stay stable through technical descents, maintain good posture on long climbs, and efficiently transfer power with every pedal stroke.

At Fluid Motion Fitness, incline sit-ups are one of the ways we strengthen the muscles that keep riders connected to their bike.

Benefits include:
🚵 Better balance and control.

💪 Improved power transfer from your upper to lower body.

🦵 Reduced lower back fatigue on longer rides.

⛰️ Greater confidence on uneven and technical trails.

💡 Fluid Motion Tip: Move slowly and avoid pulling on your neck. Focus on engaging your abdominal muscles throughout the entire movement for strength that carries over to every ride.

Train for Montana. Train twice. Adventure all week.

08/06/2026

Great rides start with strong legs.

The leg press allows you to safely build strength through the hips, glutes, and quadriceps—the muscles responsible for producing powerful pedal strokes.

At Fluid Motion Fitness, we use the leg press to help riders:
🚵 Climb stronger and longer.

💪 Build the strength needed for repeated efforts on steep terrain.

🦵 Improve lower-body endurance.

⛰️ Develop the power to accelerate and maintain momentum.

Whether you're riding local singletrack or tackling an all-day adventure, stronger legs make every mile more enjoyable.

💡 Fluid Motion Tip: Focus on smooth, controlled repetitions instead of simply adding weight. Quality movement builds strength that transfers to the trail.

Train for Montana. Train twice. Adventure all week.

08/05/2026

Every time you push down on the pedals, your quadriceps are doing the work.

That's why knee extensions are one of our favorite accessory exercises for mountain bikers at Fluid Motion Fitness.

Strong quads help you:
🚵 Produce more force during each pedal stroke.

⛰️ Maintain power on long climbs.

🦵 Improve muscular endurance for extended rides.

💪 Support the knee joint by strengthening the muscles that stabilize it.

While compound movements build overall strength, targeted exercises like knee extensions help ensure your quads are ready for the repetitive demands of mountain biking.

💡 Fluid Motion Tip: Use a slow, controlled tempo and focus on the full range of motion. Building strength through the entire movement improves both power and knee control on the bike.

Train for Montana. Train twice. Adventure all week.

The best rides aren't measured just by miles—they're measured by the confidence to tackle the next climb, the control to navigate technical terrain, and the endurance to enjoy every mile.

At Fluid Motion Fitness, we don't train just to get stronger—we train with purpose. Our programs are designed to help you perform better in the activities you love, whether that's climbing a steep fire road, descending a rocky singletrack, or exploring new trails around Bozeman.

Strength training helps mountain bikers:

🚵 Generate more power with every pedal stroke

💪 Improve stability and bike control on technical terrain

🦵 Build stronger legs for long climbs and challenging descents

⛰️ Reduce fatigue so you can enjoy longer rides

The goal isn't to spend all summer in the gym.

It's to spend just two strength sessions each week building the strength that keeps you riding stronger all season.

Train for Montana. Train twice. Adventure all week.
