I was vacationing in Colombia and I learned my friend Lucho’s son Stefano Berrocal “ La Maquina”, he is currently number one rank player on his age division and plays for the Peruvian national team., they were near by and I couldn’t resist borrowing a racquet to play “Chiquitas” with him. This exercise is a MUST with all my juniors at Tenorio Tennis.

I learned this topic from Mike Barrell an expert on kids tennis development when I was in Bolivia on a ITF coaches training. In order for very young kids to be able to do rallies back and forth over the net first we need to train them their eye visual because at these ages 4-5 years olds their eyes are still developing and we develop a program base on bunch of prep and key exercises to do so. Here little Chloe after around 4-5 months training just once a week and 30 minutes each sessions she is already able to do some basic rallies and she does very good swings mechanics as well. Tennis is repetitions, FUN yes FUN FUN , a lot of patience, and making sure they learn tennis playing , tennis is a game and we should train them having fun.

My very SPECIAL post to honor one of my great students here in the USA, the unique Sofia Ferraz, I start training and coaching her when she was just 8-9 years old, she became really good tennis player and competed in USTA junior tournaments here in Florida, she represented and was a great ambassador of our tennis academy philosophy, good player, good sport, and great enjoyment while playing. I had so many great memories with her and my daughter Michelle at the courts and off the courts as well like having ice creams after practice, also with her amazing parents and siblings Miguel and Giovanna. Sofia had a great family support which is a key when I start training kids in our academy, trust in our coaching job that’s all I ask for. Now, Sofia found her soul partner and they will get married next week in Utah and I will be there for her, thank you Sofia for inviting me and my family to your special day, as you said always to me: you part of my family I will say something to you and your family as well, you guys my family and I will be eternally grateful to tennis because tennis is my life. Thanks to the rain and canceled lessons, I had the chance to catch up with Jack, a former student of TENORIO TENNIS ACADEMY. I had the privilege of coaching him from the age of 5 to 13, and it’s incredible to see how his passion for tennis has only grown stronger. Now 16, Jack credits his early years with us for instilling a love for the game, which has propelled him currently to a close UTR 10 level. I’m thrilled to see him excel, not just in tennis, but also as a well-rounded and focused individual. As a coach, my goal is to create a nurturing environment where students can have fun, develop respect for the sport, and play tennis for life. Jack’s journey is a testament to the power of quality over quantity, and I couldn’t be prouder of him. He’s a shining example of our academy’s philosophy, and I have no doubt he’ll continue to thrive in tennis and beyond, now he is currently training and competing very hard for his dream to play in college and beyond, all these while he is still a regular high school student.

Well, now going back to tournaments after a little break with our player BellaZ., which took me a little time to finally convince her to do it, proud of you girl, the way you compete defines your character remember that and today you gave a lot of fight and officially also you won your first ever main draw match, you even got second place and a trophy but I am more proud of your own determination and bravery to compete against good players and today was your first time ever competing on official USTA tournaments.

Just finished our second podcast Tennis tales, this time talking about a very interesting person and now a great coach who is doing really good job in Baltimore Maryland, thank you Coach Allan Brooks. We were talking about how tennis saves lifes and can be a very good companion in Life.

CREATIVITY IN TENNIS.
Under-12 Development.
Imho a good Head coach can foster an ideal environment that encourages children to create on the court. “Creating”—which is a vital component of our tennis lessons here at TENORIO TENNIS ACADEMY—is essentially about letting kids be kids.
Creating is pure fun; by being creative, they learn to improvise and take their own initiative. Tennis is a sport that demands supreme coordination at high speeds; eventually, everything shifts into “autopilot.” Consequently, a child who hasn’t developed the ability to improvise at these crucial stages of development will find it extremely difficult to navigate complex situations that require advanced motor skills. I recall an anecdote involving a parent who was watching us practicing “tweeners” and other unconventional shots; his expression seemed to convey that he felt we were simply wasting our time on such things, that kid was quite young back then; today, he is a top-ranked player who is almost certain to play Division I college tennis. I remember how hard we worked on perfecting all his foundational strokes, as well as developing his repertoire of special shots. Yet, whenever I would say, “Let’s go practice some magic—let’s invent and create on the court,” he would light up with joy. I am convinced that it was in those very moments that he ignited the incredible passion for tennis that he possesses to this day.

So much FUN teaching my next minichamp the Check Republican Stella. I can see a good aura in this kid. Today for the first time ever she rallied 2 balls in the row, also, when I ask her: what is the MOST important stroke in tennis ? She now says SERVES and she already does serves with a toss as well and she is loving it. We are developing her from scratch and we must continue doing these key ingredients: Consistency, discipline, creativity, dedication, motor skills games, coordination games, movement games, jumping games, jumping ropes, throwing/ catching games, competition fun games, spacing, laughter and keep laughing louder must be mandatory at her age. Also, I think her mama is happy because Stella is having so much fun playing tennis and she is loving it. Vamosssss!!!

Full house today at TENORIO TENNIS under 10s clinic, great atmosphere great energy is a MUST on every session. Building a player takes time and being very patient let’s keep enjoying our beautiful unique journey. Thank you today to my wife Coach Yoli and Max a former Tenorio Tennis student and now a current high school tennis team player who is doing some community hours with us.
