We invite you to a pilot program for Kappa Alpha Psi members and their families. Drowning is the number one cause of accidental death under the age of 4 and second only to car accidents under the age of 14. Swimming is not just a great sport and exercise but also a life skill.

We invite you on July 20th at two o’clock to a FREE SWIM LESSON featuring our own Brother and Olympic Swimmer Cullen Jones at the Martin Luther King Jr. Pool during family day.

Here are the details:

During this swim lesson, you'll have the opportunity to enhance your swimming skills and gain confidence in the water. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, the lesson will accommodate everyone's needs and abilities.

Here's what you can expect:

Fundamental Skills: We will guide you through essential techniques such as proper breathing, body positioning, and basic freestyle stroke.
Water Safety: We'll cover vital water safety practices to ensure everyone feels secure and confident in the pool. Understanding the importance of safety measures is paramount to enjoying a worry-free swimming experience.

All are welcome, but space is limited to availability.

Attention all parents and caregivers!

It's crucial to remember that lifeguards should never replace your active supervision in or around water.

Even when lifeguards are present, always keep a watchful eye on your children.

Lifeguards are trained professionals who play a critical role in maintaining pool safety. However, they have numerous responsibilities and may not be able to focus solely on your child at all times.

Remember, we all have a role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable swimming experience by using the 5 Layers of Protection.

So, whether you're at a public pool, a water park, or even in your own backyard, please prioritize constant, capable, and close supervision.

Could a national lifeguard shortage be standing in the way of your summer plans?

Public pools and beaches are at risk of being dangerously understaffed after people left the lifeguarding profession due to a lack of work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result, the pandemic "wiped the slate of certified lifeguards completely clean," the director of health and safety at the lifeguard association, Bernard J. Fisher II, recently stated.

Although pandemic restrictions have waned, trained lifeguards haven't returned to their posts, which may force public wading areas to be shut down over safety concerns.
