KPW Youth Hockey What is King Philip Walpole Youth Hockey?

KPW Youth Hockey is a private, non-profit, community hockey organization for boys and girls from Norfolk, Walpole, Plainville, Foxboro, Mansfield and surrounding towns. KPWYH is a private, non-profit, community hockey organization for boys and girls from Norfolk, Plainville, Walpole and Wrentham, Mass. Our players range in age from pre-kindergarten through high school, and we offer a range of team

s at each age level to allow players the opportunity to play at an appropriate skill level, up through highly competitive “A” teams. KPW’s history is a rich one, including four Massachusetts state championships and teams consistently in the running for District, conference and tournament championships. Our goal

KPWYH strives to teach the fundamentals of skating and ice hockey to all athletes in a fun, safe and encouraging atmosphere, following the USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) approach to training hockey players. The USA Hockey ADM was established as a nationwide program for developing and retaining youth players in a positive environment that develops skills while encouraging the players’ love of hockey. Our leagues

Beginning with the 2012-13 season, KPW joined the South Shore Conference, one of the most competitive youth leagues in Massachusetts. Most of KPW's travel teams in the Mite, Sq**rt, P*e Wee, Bantam, Midget and Girls U10, U12, U14 and U19 age divisions play in the SSC. KPW also enters a Mite and P*e Wee team in the Yankee Conference, one of New England's oldest youth hockey leagues, which focuses on developing newer players. Previously, KPW teams played primarily in the Northstar Youth Hockey League in Westboro, Mass., with addition competition in the Neponset Valley and Greater Boston Youth Hockey Leagues. In 2011-12, our last season in the Northstar League, the KPW Mite 1, Sq**rt 1, Sq**rt 2, P*e Wee 1, P*e Wee 3 and Bantam 2 teams captured their division championships while the Sq**rt 4 and Bantam 1 teams finished second. For our younger players, KPW offers a competitive Mite half-ice program, structured on the ADM model, to introduce game concepts in a small-area environment while building skill development. In addition, KPW offers an Instructional program for first-time players, which for 10 years has embodied the principles captured in the ADM approach for training hockey players. Players in the Instructional program learn the fundamental skills (skating, passing and shooting) that allow them to succeed with their subsequent teams. Our coaches

All KPWYH coaches are certified by USA Hockey in the American Development Model and in age-specific coaching techniques, ensuring our players develop skills in a way that provides them the best opportunity to be successful in hockey over the long run.
