Preparing kids for college means helping them get in *AND STAY IN.*

Unfortunately, many adults overlook the latter.

As the responsibilities of college life begin to overwhelm them, students turn to their favorite coping mechanisms. For many, that includes digital media use, such as marathon gaming sessions, binge-watching videos or scrolling mindlessly through social media.

For those without the skills to live independently, this can quickly evolve into digital media overuse.

Which leads to poor sleep, poor nutrition, and poor study habits.

All of which exacerbates students' problems, creating a vicious cycle that can result in a failure to adjust and failing out of school.

We just published a new blog post all about mitigating the risk of digital media overuse at college.

Here's some of what you'll learn:

• How teens can work incrementally towards independence

• A list of skills for students to master before going to college

• Why students need to identify and accept how they learn best to succeed at college

• A list of items to consider when choosing a college for students with learning disabilities and other co-existing factors

• What to do when going directly to college isn't the best option

In-person therapy is often better for those seeking treatment for digital media overuse and addiction issues

Online therapy became necessary when the COVID-19 pandemic made in-person meetings unsafe.

It's a godsend for those who have geographic, health, or mobility issues.

But for treatment of digital media overuse or internet addictions like gaming disorder, po*******hy addiction or social media addiction, online therapy is often contraindicated for a variety of reasons.

We just published a new blog post explaining why in-person therapy is better for those who struggle with digital media overuse and addiction. Here’s some of what's covered:

• The factors commonly co-occurring with digital media overuse that make online therapy contraindicated
• Obstacles to the therapeutic process that are inherent in teletherapy
• When online therapy *CAN* work
• And tons of resources to learn more about why in-person therapy is better for digital media overuse and addiction

The modern athlete is different from their predecessors and most of that change can be attributed to growing up on the internet.

We call them true digital natives. And today's coaches have a unique challenge trying to motivate this new breed of athlete.

So we just published a new blog post for coaches, sports psychologists and all those who work with athletes. It's full of information about how the internet has changed the modern athlete like:

⚽️ The modern athlete is more likely to fact check a coach.
🏀 There are fewer of them. Most kids now drop out of sports by age 11.
🏈 They are less emotionally resilient.
⚾️ They struggle with in-person communication.
🎾 But, they are more likely to express themselves vulnerably online.
🏐 And, they expect to co-author and customize their participation.

You can read the new blog post on how the internet changed the modern athlete at the link below.

And please let us what you think. We'd love to hear from you.

Managing distractions has always been a key factor in developing athletic performance, but the internet has multiplied those distractions exponentially.

Across every level and type of sport, coaches report they work harder than they did a decade ago just to ensure their players are mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared to show up to practice and competitions. Largely thanks to their focus being interrupted by the internet.

So we just published a new Coach’s Guide to Helping Athletes Focus in the Age of the Internet.

It’s full of helpful information like:

→ Why the internet is the new “outside noise” threatening athletic focus.

→ Even veteran NBA player Vince Carter says comments on social media are “an emotional rollercoaster.”

→ What to tell players when they say video games or social media help them relax.

→ Studies show too much gaming or social media actually causes mental fatigue and impaired athletic performance and has been correlated with sport anxiety.

→How to get your team to buy into healthy digital media use.

→ Plus tons of links to more resources on athletic focus in the internet age and building a team culture that values healthy digital mediuseYou can read the entire blog post
