The 2017 Haute Route Rockies event will take place June 24th - 30th, and this Saturday the first of four rides will take place which will serve to assemble the community of athletes who will take part in this event.
Please join us for a Haute Route road ride, departing from Panache Cyclewear at 11AM on December 10th. Doors will open at 10:30 for handshaking and intros. World Tour Cannondale Drapac rider Alex Howes will be in attendance, so come and rub elbows with him while you have the chance. If you don't already know where it is, the address of Panache is:
2840 Wilderness Place
Suite G
Boulder, CO 80301
2017 Haute Route Rockies event discussions including event planning, training and strategy will happen during the ride. Take advantage of Alex Howe's experience as a Tour de France rider to ask him for tips on how to survive this arduous event. Colby Pearce is a USAC level one coach, 2004 Olympian, and Steve Hogg Certified bike fitter, who can provide input on these and other topics.
Never heard of the Haute Route? On the fence about it? Come and have your questions answered. Anyone is welcome to attend, even if you won't be in Colorado in June. Come and join the group and take a pull to help your comrades gain fitness in their quest to conquer the 38th great state.
The tentative ride plan (subject to road conditions and temperatures) will be a 4 hour ride at mostly conversational pace. The route will head north on the dirt roads towards Carter Lake, over the dam, and up to the summit of the Pinewood Reservoir climb. On the way back to town we may stop for a coffee and some calories. Come prepared, just as you will in the summer, the Rockies can throw almost anything at you.
Don't feel like riding 4 hours? Start with the group and turn around when you are ready. Alex is training for the Tour Down Under...he needs his kilometers and his coach is a tough bastard.
In the coming months there will be additional rides and lectures on event preparation at Panache Cyclewear. More details will be discussed on Saturday.
