Maintenance lessons help children continue practicing and building their skills as they grow — both physically and mentally. These lessons allow swimmers to stay confident, refine their abilities, and be continually challenged as their bodies and minds develop.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY 🇺🇸
⭐️A friendly holiday reminder to help keep your little ones safe in and around the water this weekend!
⭐️Stay within arm’s reach of your child whenever they’re in or near the water. The safest place is in the water with them, not watching from the side.
⭐️Assign a dedicated “Water Watcher.” Rotate every 15-20 minutes, and during their shift, their only job is watching the water. • No phones. No distractions.
⭐️Hosting a pool party? Consider hiring a lifeguard so everyone can relax while an extra set of trained eyes is on the water.
⭐️Keep tables, chairs, toys, and other furniture away from your pool fence. Curious little climbers can use them to get over the fence.
⭐️Double-check gates, latches, and door alarms, especially if you’re staying at a vacation rental or visiting friends and family.
⭐️Remove floats and pool toys when swim time is over. They can tempt children back toward the water.
⭐️Choose bright, highly visible swimsuits like neon orange, yellow, pink, or green to make your child easier to spot in the water.
⭐️Stay hydrated, take shade breaks, and reapply sunscreen throughout the day. On lakes, rivers, or the ocean, always wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket that’s properly fitted for your child.
⭐️Water safety is all about layers of protection. No single layer is enough on its own, but together they help keep our children safer.

Every Sunday today thru July 26, Nevada Department of Wildlife staff will be on hand from 9:00AM to 12:00PM to provide education about our local Desert Bighorn Sheep herd. This is a FREE event that will take place at Hemenway Park (401 Ville Drive). Bring your family and friends, but leave your dog at home as they are not allowed in Hemenway Park. ISR lessons are a commitment — we practice 5 days a week for just 10 minutes a day over 6–7 weeks. In that short time, you’ll watch your child learn and gain lifesaving water safety skills. Our next session begins July 13th.

ISR lessons can begin as early as 6 months old. Once infants are able to sit up independently — and many are beginning to crawl at this stage — we focus on teaching essential floating skills. The goal is to help them learn how to float independently if they were ever to unexpectedly find themselves in the water. Contact: [email protected] for my July schedule.
