Brilliant choreography in 1932 by Kurt Jooss. It is an excerpt from"The Green Table". Pertinent for today. It is interesting to see how the politicians go in and out of anger/ accusations with propriety/etiquette. As Doris Humphrey says:
“There are times when the simple dignity of movement can fulfill the function of a volume of words.”

Choreographed in 1932, between two conflicts, The Green Table is a sort of generic war, a set of circumstances that produce the same result no matter where or…

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/17/arts/music/peter-schickele-dead.html. I just learned that Peter Schickele, one of NYC's renowned modern-classical composers recently passed. His piece, "SEXTET" was the inspiration for my 2001 dance work, DEEP HORIZON, choreographed on the brilliant dancers of the pre-professional track modern class at the Boston Ballet, including Ariane Georg, Julianna Nagy, Regina Polomar, Caitlin Novero, Marissa Paramenter, Kristen Lung and performed later with my company including Nick Mishoe of the Boston Ballet. I love this piece of music -- it is rich, layered, complex, intense --beautiful. Mr. Schickele enjoyed my choreography to his music and mentioned it here and there in his blog over the years. Forever grateful and inspired by his creativity. RIP.

Showing a piece, RAW VELVET, locally --I choreographed it in 1999 on the professional track students at the Boston Ballet School, involving a complex organic synergy of ballet and modern technique. It will be in a concert celebrating women choreographers including Kathryn Anderson (Founder), Kat Pantos, Melenie Diarbekirian (current Artistic Director), Juliana Utz, and myself. It will be performed by the Commonwealth Ballet of Acton MA, Saturday May 18th @ 7 PM and Sunday May 19th @ 1 PM, Maynard High School, Maynard, MA. Tickets are available at 978-263-7794 or email: commonwealthballet.org.

So nice to see this mention of my choreography to John Harbison's "Deep Dances" (2006). I had no idea this was being performed in 2019 at Symphony Hall - how I wish I were there! John's work is brilliant in the best sense of the word...and I am honored to have my name associated with him. In a myriad of ways.

John Harbison’s music remains an enigma for some listeners. Though his music often casts an eye towards tradition, his overall style is elusive, each new composition differing from the last, often significantly.
