Introducing your 2026 Master’s 2 Heavyweight World Champion and newest SMAA Purple Belt, Mr. Colton Hill!!

His performance was nothing short of inspiring, he had the longest path to gold, every match (6 in total) was against an absolute monster, all of them going the distance! He faced a lot of adversity throughout every match yet still managed to persevere, stay strong and find a way to victory!

You deserve everything bit of this Colton, way to set a goal, work hard for it and go out there and make it happen, all while doing it with his family by his side, leading from the front!

We’re all proud of you!!

You don’t rise to the occasion…. you fall back on your preparation.

Stay ready with SMAA. 💪

The hard training, the early mornings, the extra rounds, the days you don’t feel like showing up… it all matters.

Training hard doesn’t just make you better on the mats. It makes real life easier. You build discipline, confidence, resilience, and the ability to stay calm when things get tough.

Stay ready. Stay sharp. Keep putting in the work.

Part of becoming good at the game isn’t just learning how to attack it’s understanding the rules that govern the game.

At SMAA, that difference matters.
In this breakdown, Professor Knudsen takes a closer look at what a reap actually means, why it matters, and most importantly, how to recognize and avoid creating a reap while still being aggressive with your leg attacks.

Leg entanglements are an incredibly effective part of modern Jiu-Jitsu, but with that effectiveness comes responsibility. You need to understand where your opponent’s knee, hip, and foot are positioned, what your own legs are doing, and how small changes in positioning can turn a legal attack into a potentially illegal reap.
Knowing the rules doesn’t mean playing less aggressively.

It means knowing how to attack intelligently, effectively, and within the rules.

That’s part of the SMAA difference: we don’t just teach you techniques : we teach you the game.

Watch Professor Knudsen break it down and sharpen your understanding of leg attacks. 🦵🥋
SMAA HQ . Train smart. Know the game.

Monday nights at SMAA HQ just hit different. 🥋🔥

Good training. Good people. Good vibes… and apparently a whole lot of feral Purple belts. 😂💜 You’ve been warned. 😈💜

Big congratulations to Brian Gelpi on earning his first stripe! 👏 And congratulations to Emery on earning her stripe on her Grey belt! 🩶🥋
These are the nights that remind us why we love this place. We train hard, we celebrate each other, we laugh way too much, and somehow the chaos always makes it onto the mats. 😂

Come see what Monday nights are all about. The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is discovery.
See y’all on the mats. 🖤🥋

SMAA HQ: there’s a place for you here.

At SMAA, there are plenty of opportunities to train, learn, move, and build something that lasts.

Different classes.
Different training partners.
Different challenges.

Same goal: keep showing up.
You don’t need to be ready.
You don’t need to know what you’re doing.
You just need to start.

Lots of options. Lots of room to grow.
Start your journey now. 🥋🔥

Every child deserves a place where they’re challenged, encouraged, and reminded they’re capable of more than they think.

At SMAA, our Kids Jiu Jitsu program is about so much more than learning techniques. It’s about building confidence, resilience, respect, and the courage to keep trying when things get hard.

Every class is another opportunity to grow.

Our program is primarily led by black belts, with support from
an experienced coaching team dedicated to helping each student develop at their own pace.

Whether your child is stepping onto the mats for the first time or has been training for years, they’ll be surrounded by coaches who genuinely care about their progress, who are also active competitors and practitioners of the sport.

🥋 Monday: Kids Gi
🤼‍♀️ Tuesday–Thursday: Kids NoGi

Come find out why so many families call SMAA home. The lessons learned on the mats last long after class is over.

Competition season is here.

The brackets are filling up. The countdown has started. The question is simple:

Are you ready?

There isn’t a shortcut to confidence. There isn’t a substitute for preparation. Every round you train, every bad position you fight out of, every rep you put in when you’re tired, that’s what shows up on competition day.

At SMAA, we’re putting in the work. Sharpening the details. Pushing the pace. Helping each other get a little better every single session.

Whether this is your first tournament or your fiftieth, now is the time to build the habits that carry you through when the adrenaline kicks in.

Get on the mats. Trust the process. Put in the work now so you can enjoy the results later.

See you at HQ. 👊🔥
