It's Fishing Friday!
Bass fishing has been feast to famine with reports of area lakes serving up near 20 # sacks down to scraping by to get 5 fish. Last week the Bassin' In The Boot 3 Fish Thursday on St John took nearly 8 # to win and last night a big bass of 3.81 # took top sack on Concordia. With the river staying relatively low this Spring I'd expect the Old Rivers to play before Summer.
White Perch are in full swing on most lakes in the area with St. John, Wallace and Louie leading the charge. Shiners and jigs are both producing as the fish have moved up shallow.
Catfish are jumping in the boat. I watched a gentleman run yoyos back and forth on Concordia yesterday catching 1-2 # fryers on night crawlers. I should have helped him all I caught was a 6 # striper! St John as always is giving up plenty of Catfish as is the Black River Lake Complex. The big river south of the grain elevator is allowing the bank brigade to reel in Catfish regularly.
Bream really haven't turned on yet and I blame this beautiful Spring weather. The water temps will reach 70 soon coupled with the full moon in April to excite the bream. It's close!
