Over the last 2 nights the Springhill Fire Dive Team had Public Safety Diving training pool sessions:

On Friday evening the divers were required to perform a 500m free swim; a 800m mask, snorkel, and fin swim; a 15 minute survival float; and a free dive for search and retrieval. They also practiced different search patterns.

On Saturday evening the divers had to wear blacked out face masks to perform a search through a maze. The divers did not get to see what the maze consisted of before they went through it. These are pictures from the maze. It consisted of starting out on a left hand search pattern and coming across a box with 2 different size bolts, nuts, and washer sets. Divers had to assemble them correctly before continuing on the left hand search. Once they found the rope, they had to hold onto the rope and continue searching for items until they reached a ladder where they had to perform knot tying around the ladder using knots such as a bowline, becket bend, and clove hitch. They then found a obstacle course meant to make them work on getting themselves unstuck from obstruction in the way. After that they had to continue on the rope until they came upon a lift bag they had to use by tying on an object to lift. They continued on the rope search where they came across a confined space they had to go through (the barrels). They had to take their BCD assembly off and pass it through the confined space and follow through themselves and then don their BCD before continuing the search. Up next was finding a victim (the baby in the pictures) that the the divers had to mark with a buoy before continuing their search until they followed the rope out of the water. Keep in mind they did the entire search maze with blacked out masks to where they couldn’t see anything. They had to perform all these skills on “feel” alone. After the search maze divers had to perform a 100m buddy tow and continued to work on different search patterns.
