10 Pickle Ball fundamentals to improve your Pickle Ball game, by Stephen Gannon
Friends, this is intended in fun, and is not directed at anybody in particular, and is dIrected to ALL of us in general. It is frustrating for people who are trying to better their Pickle Ball game, but playing with a pickle ball partner who has been told over and over the fundamental strategies of the game—and they are continually neglected. Hopefully, the video will be a poignant reminder to follow tried and tested basic fundamentals. Think of these 10 things as ten ways to get the nail out of your head. There are many, but let me give you a few:
1. Get your serve in.
2. The very best second shot is to the back of the server’s court—to their backhand if you can.
3. Don’t forget you must allow the second shot to bounce.
4. Get to the “no volley” zone (many call the kitchen) as quickly as possible, after second shot.
5. As much as possible, plant your feet before hitting. I call hitting while running (running with scissors), because it is dangerous to your success.
Most players miss 90% of shots they hit while using their wrist and moving their feet.
6. Use the old reliable drop shot anytime after second shot.
7. Do not hit a shot from the air in the kitchen or allow your forward momentum on a volley shot to make you step into the kitchen.
8. When at the kitchen keep your paddle out front so you can block, push, or d**k. On a slam you don’t have time to move your hand back and hit. You only have time to block, push, or d**k.
9. As much as possible, use your rotor cuff (shoulder joint) to power your shots (d**ks, lobs, and slams). Wrists are at the heart of the game’s biggest fails.
10. Remember, unless you are a professional player, have fun, laugh a lot, don’t get down on yourself, and be kind and gracious to others.
And with that being said, here’s something to help all of this sink in:
"Don't try to fix it. I just need you to listen." Every man has heard these words. And they are the law of the land. No matter what.
