Bruce P21 and Levi P15 in the Evans Mills Raceway Park - Mother’s Day Weekend Presented by North Counties Supply
Bruce:
The first race of the year went pretty well. Bruce started 19th and finished 21st on the lead lap. He is getting more comfortable in the car. There is still a lot to learn, but he is getting better every week. Bruce is looking forward to next week’s race.
Levi:
The first race of the year was fun, but a little disappointing finish wise. In hot laps/practice Levi ran a time of 15.273 which was 11th fastest out of 24 cars. The car felt good so there was some optimism going into the heat race. Levi’s pill draw put him starting 2nd in the first heat race.
The heat race started with the car really tight on entry and the third place car of Terry Gardner passed him. After a few laps for the car and Levi to settle down it started to handle a bit better. Eventually after a great battle with Terry, Levi got by him on the outside to finish 2nd in the heat.
The feature had an 8 car invert which put Levi starting 5th. The first lap of the race had a caution where the 2nd place driver spun the 1st place driver in front of Levi. Some evasive maneuvering allowed Levi to get by without damage. On the restart he was 3rd and the car was once again really tight on entry. Levi started falling back, but a mistake in turn 3 caused the car to actually get loose on entry and a couple more cars got by. Levi settled in around 9th place until a caution on lap 18. On the restart he fell back to 10th and rode there racing with the 21 car. After a fun battle with the 21 car, Levi got by him just as the caution came out on lap 30. Unfortunately the timing goes back to the previous lap so the 21 got his position back. Levi chose the outside on the restart to try to get back around the 21. The car was unfortunately really loose on the restart and Levi fell back to 15th in the final 5 laps where he ultimately finished. The rear stagger had grown to 4” which most likely contributed to the looseness at the end of the race. The car was not stable throughout the night and was never “in the track.” We will go to work on the car this week to try to get it better for next week.
