A golfer walks into the 19th hole after his round.

A borderline alcoholic, he orders two shots of wh***ey, downing them both back-to-back. He settles the tab and leaves.

The next afternoon, the golfer returns after finishing his round, orders two shots of wh***ey, knocks them both back, and walks out.

He continues this exact post-round routine for weeks, until the bartender finally gets curious.

"I have to ask," she says, "why do you always order exactly two shots?"

The golfer smiles and explains, "My longtime golf buddy and I played 18 holes together every weekend for thirty years. After every round, we'd each do a shot."

"I just moved here from across the country recently, but we promised to keep the tradition alive. So every time I finish a round, I order two drinks—one for me, and one for him."

The bartender thinks it's a great tradition.

A few weeks later, the golfer walks into the clubhouse looking tired after his round and sits at the bar.

She pours him his regular order of two shots of wh***ey, but he holds up his hand.

"Just one shot of wh***ey today," he says quietly.

The bartender gets concerned and asks gently, "Oh no... did something happen to your golf buddy? Is he okay?"

"Oh, he's totally fine," the golfer replies. "I just gave up drinking."

Stroke play, flighted every night with a skins game and pin prizes!! 5:30 sh***un start. We will have a sign up sheet in the shop for each week’s event. Fees will look like this and include everything:
Hail Ridge Members $15/night
Maxim Members (Eagle Knoll, Heritage Hills, ETC) $25/night
Non Members $40/night
Golf course is amazing!

Rest in peace to a true legend of Iowa golf, Joe “Hawk” Hawkins (1951–2026). ⛳️

A PGA Professional since 1978, Past President of the Iowa PGA, and 1994 Iowa PGA Teacher of the Year, Hawk dedicated his life to the game and the countless players he mentored along the way. His warmth, skill, and passion for golf will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Maggie, and the entire Hawkins family.

Services: Tuesday, August 18th at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein, IA.
