It’s been a long week of Lower Creek Airport relief here in Lenoir, NC. ✈️ As the WNC airdrop project grew, dozens of pilots flew in to contribute their skills and airplanes to get supplies from collection points to remote locations in need.

Here’s a couple of highlights and photos from the airdrop program via the Lower Creek Airport page:

- 838 gallons of airplane fuel has been used in the last 5 days alone
- over 100 flights have gone out from last Tuesday - this Saturday
- on top of easily accessible supplies, community members were able to procure Epi pens, insulin, and other medical supplies, a much harder commodity to find and direly needed in relief efforts.
- Flights delivered supplies to Spruce Pine, Banner Elk, Little Switzerland and other locations in Ashe county.
- The airdrop effort now has an online link for monetary donations for fuel and other operations costs for those who may want to contribute through Zeffy (link at bottom of post)
- The list of needs changes daily and the Lower Creek list comes directly from needs voiced by supply recipients. what any have been needed last week may not be the same. This coming week, supplies to sustain long term survival are now needed (meds, PPE for clean up, chainsaw supplies, batteries, warm clothes).

Things have been quite over here in the relentless summer sun but fall our favorite time of the year for flying and teaching! The humid heat that steams you like a bag of crab legs turns into breezy afternoons, mid day naps make way for evening glass offs, and our North Carolina landscape transforms into an autumn wonderland.

It’s never too early to start your hang gliding journey 🐣

We had an amazing weekend with through some pretty tough weather conditions in the evenings but we had a blast and got all three pilots flying by the end of the weekend.

Little Elizabeth came out to cheer on her mom Georgina and though she may be 11 years away from hopping in a glider herself she definitely won the weekend’s stoke award 🥇

We are flying all week with another group from so current and potential students, give us a shout to come out and join us 🪁
