Is my garage/shop has been a disaster for the last few years. I haven't been able to do any axe or knife restorations, haven't hit any hot steel or even sharpen many blades that need it.

It was so bad, I had this paragon heat treat oven I paid $600 for on the floor of my shop the last three years. Sat unused.

So, starting after work on Friday, I started cleaning. Sold a bunch of crap on FB marketplace and took a large load of "stuff" to the dump.

I'm still not completely there BUT this oven is off the floor and it was plugged in for the very first time in just over three years.

To me, that's a win.

I just spent over 2 hours hand sanding this blade in the middle of the night at 400 grit to get out the 320 grit scratches in the blade.

I was just taking pictures for a friend of mine of my progress and just noticed some very light 320 grit scratches left on both sides....😬😬

Back to the 400 grit.....grrrrr

Finally the first of two BSA hatchets is being given to a well-deserved recipient tonight.
Just finished both of them up. Sharpened them up on my 2 by 72 inch belt grinder starting with the 80 grit moving to the 320 grit then the 600, 800 and finally 1200 grit.

Thank you to Craig Roost for the donated hatchets.

Been a busy 3 days. My son turned 18 years old and just turned in his Eagle project last week. He now just has the Eagle board of review to earn his Eagle rank.

On top of that I have the Oregon knife collectors show in the next two weeks and in the last 3 days every one of these axes has been sharpened and or handles repaired and replaced.

The gems of this batch are the American Axe and Tool Company Carpenters Hatchet in near mint condition, a forest Service issued True Temper Flint Edge boys axe, a Wetterlings Montreal pattern and a near mint condition Collins Hudson Bay ( still needs a handle).

Every once in awhile you have to let loose. Wife and I went wine tasting this weekend out in Walla Walla but that doesn't mean I wasn't looking for new projects to restore.

Here's what I found just on Saturday.

Some of these will start getting new handles and getting cleaned up later this week

Here is an old ships maul that is also being donated to the fundraiser for my son's high school weight room.

I went ahead and customized the handle to the Japanese style of wood preservation where you burn the wood, scrape off the char and then oil it. I left the patina on the main body of the head but I did polish the face.

My son's high school booster club, is have an auction next week to raise money for new weight room equipment.
After the success of last years auction for his lacrosse team where one of my double bits sold for $400, they asked me to donate one for this auction. This axe will represent the wrestling team he plays on.

This is a True Temper 4lb single that has a 38" straight handle that was a NOS that I found at an estate sale.

I was asked to do a review of the new Council Tool belt hatchet by the designer himself. Here are some action shots.
