Looking for something to do before now and Halloween? Before the wet and dark devours us all? Great news, I have just the thing. On Friday evening 9/25 and Saturday 9/26 the 3rd annual Pioneer Highland Games will be taking place at McMillan Farm and Brewhouse. On Friday night the flaming hammer toss (yes, you read that right) will take place followed by the games themselves on Saturday.

What are Highland Games, you ask? The games originated in the Scottish Highlands as a way for clans to test the strength, skill, and speed. They consist of a series of competitons involving throwing various heavy objects. Perhaps the most famous might be the caber toss. My training company Imperiya Barbell WORX (Tehaleh's own) will be on site offering free and fun tests of strength. Some with prizes! Also on hand will be a musical performance by Ockham's Razor, a high-energy Celtic rock and folk-fusion band based in Seattle. So come on down and enjoy some brews, tunes, and heavy athletics! Go to The Pioneer Highland Games sign up to compete or click the link below. No experience required! Make sure to follow the Pioneer Highland Games and Imperiya Barbell on Facebook and Instagram for more information.

AMERICA'S STRONGEST MASTER RECAP!!! This past Saturday was the 2026 America's Strongest Master competition in Oklahoma City, OK. This year I was accompanied by my comrade John Hahn and our esteemed coach and culinary advisor Jaclyn Diane. First, let me give props to John who crushed several of the events with new personal bests and got a mark in all events, despite having a shoulder injury that prevented a full attempt in event one. Earned a 4th place finish and an Arnold Classic qualification! Second, mad props to the showrunners and volunteers because it the whole thing ran smooth, looked cool (rule #1), and went fairly quickly. Great work! In the past this comp has been two days (3 events each day) but this year is was down to one day of 5 events. I was a big fan of the events and the combination turned out to be brutal. As I write this on Sunday I feel like I was kicked by a horse which sent me into the back seat of a car that was then immediately involved in an accident. But no injuries! Overall a very successful comp as I ended up in 2nd place and qualified for the Arnold Classic Masters World Championship in March! The events:
1) Axle/Barbell Press Ladder: got 4th in this event which was serviceable as I did not expect to win
Could have gone faster but I took my time on the 4th bar to make sure I got it.
2) Hummer Tire Hex Deadlift For Reps: crushed this as expected with 27 reps. Would have been a tie for 1st in the event but I got penalized a rep (I believe for bouncing).
3) Sandbag and Sled Medley: this one I was scared of because this Sandbag pick from the floor was the worst kind for my injured glute. So I took my time on the bags and blasted through the sled to great success. Got 2nd in this event
4) Yoke Walk: I didn't have a "bad" event but I would say I did "less good" in this one. Tried to be a smarty pants and drop right at the correct moment but messed that up and had to pick shuffle twice. Still got 2nd.
5) Sandstone Bag Over Bar: 2nd place was already in the bag (pun intended) and 3rd place couldn't catch me so didn't go all out on this one. Just wanted to make sure I got all four bags. Finished in 3rd place.

See you next year!
