2026 USS STRONGMAN NATIONALS RECAP!!! As you should be aware Saturday June 6th was the 2026 USS Nationals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I accompanied three brave souls aa their humble coach on their journey and it was a success.

The events were as follows:
Event 1: Axle Clean and Press (max weight)
Event 2: Axle Deadlift (max reps)
Event 3: Rope Sled Drag and Sled Pull
Event 4: Farmer's Walk and Sandstone Bag Carry
Event 5: Sandstone Bag Over Bar

First of all, all hail Odin that none of them were injured. While they might say that they wished they did better in this way or that all of them performed at or above the expected level. There were multiple PRs hit during the day. I am proud of all their performances and the hard work put in to get there. A national competition is an entirely different world than a local show and none of these athletes is a long term strongman veteran. If you see them, tell them how awesome they are!

MONDAY MUSINGS!!! As you are likely aware of you follow Imperiya content I strained my right glute (something jumped up and bit meeee) last Sunday while picking up the Husafell stone (humblebrag). These things happen when you undertake extreme sport and fitness goals. It is to be expected from time to time. Having experienced numerous injuries over my 34 year span of lifting, sports, combat, and competing I knew what this was immediately. A grade 1 strain. So let's discuss the recovery and rehab of an injury like this and injuries in general. First, let me remind you I am not a doctor of medical professional so please consult a doctor if you sustain an injury. That being said, I have recovered faster from and thrived through more injuries than anyone I've ever seen. I have a Wolverine style healing factor. This is because I use a VERY active recovery process. For extreme injuries complete rest may be necessary. However, that is not what most people deal with. Going fully comatose because you pulled your quad is not the answer. First, you have other limbs to train. Second, intelligent use of the injured area increases blood flow and healing of the area. Don't agree? What exactly do you think physical therapy is if not light weight lifting? Lastly, there is evidence in support of the benefit of contralateral training in the maintenance of the opposite limbs (look it up). In summary, even in the face of extreme injury there may be opportunities to continue to train and stay fit. Don't give up the fight!

SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT!!! Someone boarded the gainz train and never got off! We are now a week away from USS Strongman Nationals so what better time to shine the spotlight on Felicia, a long time member of Team Imperiya. She and two other local athletes will be going big on a grand stage to test their grit next Saturday. I first met her when she was doing group Lift classes a few years back. She had bever competed and was not an experienced lifter. It seems she was bitten by the bug of Strongwoman after a while and signed up to be part of the Ugly Sweater Classic team. And so it truly began. Since then she has competed in multiple Strongwoman competitions, including two previous USS Nationals showings. She has also clearly made huge gains in strength and lost tons of unhealthy weight. In fact, next Saturday she will be competing in a lower weight class than ever before. This doesn't happen by accident. It takes years of training, not only at Imperiya but through a smart diet and consistent exercise on your own. So take a moment to salute Felicia and her hard work!

MONDAY MUSINGS: THE HISTORY OF STRENGTH - STONELIFTING EDITION!!!
As you may have noticed over the past week I have been visiting and lifting large stones in beautiful and majestic locals. This was not coincidental, but a planned excursion due to the fact that the places I would be visiting have more than their fair share of historical lifting stones. You may be asking yourself: is that a real thing? ABSOLUTELY. Things like running/racing, fighting, wrestling, and lifting and throwing heavy objects (most notably stones) can be traced back centuries, likely to the early stages of humanity. Even modern children hold this instinct. If you have young boys you can verify the unusual amount of time they spend wrestling, racing, and more. It is in our DNA. Due to time constraints and other factors I only has the chance to visit a small selection of stones. The most notable is the Husafell stone in Husafell, Iceland. It is the most famous of all the lifting stones in the world. So much so that equipment companies sell metal and sandbag replicas for training. Replicas and the actual stone itself are used in Strongman competitions across the world, including the World's Strongest Man. The stone is out in the middle of a field in Iceland. The stone weighs approximately 410 lbs. It was an honor and pleasure to lift it and carry it. I had a scare on attempt one as I popped my right glute. Luckily as you know if you train with me, I have a other cheek and leg. I leaned hard left on my second and third attempts and was able to lift it twice (and rake a short walk). I won't be doing much in the way of squats and deadlifts for a while but the legendary husafell has been checked off my bucket list. See the photo at the end of the post for a summary of the lore of the stones I visited and lifted!

Back in the 700 lb club at 46!!!

Training Update 5/17/26. BACK IN THE 700 LB CLUB, SUCKAAAAAAAS!!! Actually, 705 to be exact. As you may recall, one of my offseason goals was to get my deadlift back above 700. First suited and second raw if possible. Mission accomplished. This upcoming week I my try the raw attempt but I have run out of time on my straight bar deadlift focus. I have not hit this weight in 5 or 6 years. When I return from my journey I will be shifting to hex bar focus for a slow build to Strongman Corporation Master's Nationals in August. On the down side, my left knee and hip continue to bother me.

The upcoming week promises to be a whirlwind of activity that includes new strength experiences. I will traveling to Scotland, Faroe Islands (Denmark), and Iceland over a period of seven days. I hope it hit four gyms in three countries. More excitingly, all three of these countries are home to historic and legendary lifting stones. Stay tuned!
