It was a warm, muggy day yesterday for our first tournament of the September Junior Golf Development League.

We had 2 groups competing in the scramble division. Our first group out, Ximena, Madison, Abigail & Skylar got off to a good start with pars on the first 2 holes. They made back-to-back bogeys on the 3rd & 4th holes, but bounced back with a birdie on the 5th hole to get to 1-over par. They made all pars on the last 4 holes to post a 1-over par, 38. Our second group out, Ezra, Aiden, Stevie & Xavier made birdies on the 2nd and 8th holes to get to 2-under par. They made bogey on the 9th hole to post a 1-under par, 36 to earn the victory. Congratulations to Ezra, Aiden, Stevie & Xavier for being this month’s first scramble medalists.

In our own ball groups, we had 9 participants. Ava off to a bad start with a bogey on the first hole and a double bogey on the second hole. She bounced back with a birdie on the third hole to get back to 2-over par, but then made another double bogey on the fourth hole to drop back to 4-over par. She played the last 5 holes in even par to post a 4-over par, 41. Faron got off to a slow start with a bogey on the first hole. He dropped another shot on the 4th hole and one more on the 6th hole. However, he made a birdie on the 7th hole to get back to 2-over. He went on to play the last 2 holes in even par to post a 2-over par, 39 and earn the victory. Congratulations to Faron for being this week’s medalist, his third individual medal.

We had 2 groups competing in the scramble division and the competition was tight. Our first group, Finn, Ximena, Abigail & Kendall got off to a slow start with a bogey on the first hole. They bounced back with a birdie on the 2nd hole to get back to even par and played the last 7 holes in 1-under par to post a 1-under par, 36. So they had to wait it out to see if their score would hold up. Our second group, Noah, Stevie, Skylar & Xavier were at 2-over par after 4 holes. They made birdies on the 5th & 7th holes to get back to even but were not able to make any birdies on the last 3 holes and came in at even par, 37, one stroke short of a tie. Congratulations to Finn, Ximena, Abigail, Kendall for being yesterday’s scramble medalists.

In our own ball groups, we had 16 participants with 1 new participant making the transition from the scramble division: Gizelle. So they had to wait it out to see if their score would hold up. Our third team out, Finn, Valentina, Gizelle & Stevie made 6 straight pars to start their round. However, they made an eagle 3 on the 7th hole and a birdie on the 8th hole to get to 3-under par. They were unable to birdie the 9th hole, so they came up 1 stroke short of a tie. We put a wrap on our 2026 PGA Jr League season by having our Eighth Annual Parent-Jr Tournament yesterday at Chula Vista Golf Course. We had a 17 teams (68 participants) play a 9-hole scramble and battle it out for some nice crystal trophies with an awards banquet immediately following play.

The event is the highlight of the year for me. What an amazing afternoon and evening it was. The weather was perfect for family golf and an excellent dinner afterwards. I saw a lot of smiles yesterday which tells me that it was a fabulous experience for all who attended. Family, friends, food & golf…what can get better than that?

The competition for the crystal trophies was fierce. We had 13 of the 17 teams shoot under par. The team of Stephen, Gizelle, Stevie & Payton got off to a great start with 3 consecutive birdies. They were at 3-under par after 5 holes and played the last 4 holes in 3-under par to come in at 6-under par, 31. The team of Rene, Ava, Abigail & Fernandina got off to a great start with a birdie on their first hole then and an eagle on their 3rd hole to get to 3-under par thru 3 holes. They played the last 6 holes in 3-under par to also post a 6-under par, 31. The team of Edgar & Ximena and Kim & Skylar also made a birdie on their first hole and eagle on their third hole to get to 3-under par thru 3 holes. They were at 6-under par after 7 holes, but made pars on the last 2 holes to also come in at 6-under par, 31. The team of Christian & Madison and Andres & Valentina got off to a fantastic start with birdies on the first 2 holes and an eagle on their 3rd hole to get to 4-under par after 3 holes. They played the next 5 holes in 2-under par to get to 6-under par then proceeded to birdie their last hole to seal the deal and come in at 7-under par, 30 to earn the victory in this year’s Parent-Jr Tournament.

Our 2026 PGA Jr League All-Stars participated in the SCPGA PGA Jr. League Qualifier last Friday at Alhambra Golf Course. Even though we didn't qualify for the Section Championship, it was a great experience for them and their parents to be a part of such a big event.

We had a great finish to the 2026 PGA Jr League Season! It was strange weather day to play golf for our fifth, and final, game of the season, with some sprinkles to freshen up the day.

In the 17u division, Team Lagoon (Johann, Jonah, Lucas S & Miguel) put a bow on a great season by posting an outstanding, bogey-free 6-under par, 31, our lowest score of the season. They were at 2-under par after 4-holes, then played the last 5 holes in 4-under par to close it out. Their win marked the fourth time in five weeks where they were the medalists, leading them to a dominant 6 point victory over Team River (Jackson, Leo, Blake, Avery & Kaylen), who shot a 2-under par, 35 to earn 1.5 points to finish second. Team Ocean (Lucero, Victoria, Isabella & Michelle) also shot a 2-under par, 35 to finish third. Team Lake (JT, Branden, Lucas T & Theo) came in fourth. Congratulations to Team Lagoon (Johann, Jonah, Lucas S & Miguel) for being yesterday’s medalists and for being this year’s 17u PGA Jr League champions!

In the 13u division, our all-girls team Chula (Ava, Ximena, Valentina, Gizelle/Kenzie, Skylar, Madison, Abigail, Fernandina) won in emphatic fashion by shooting a combined score of 10-under par, 64 and finished the season with 7 points. Team Vista (Dylan, Payton, Liam, Noah/Cristian, Aydyn, Andres, Stevie) were trying to chase down Team Chula and needed some help going into the last game of the season. However, they were only able to manage a combined score of 5-under par, 69 and came in second with 4.5 points. Team Bonita (Cash, Nicolas, Ezra, Xavier/Faron, Abraham, Ethan, Sam) tied their best round of the season with a combined score of 6-under par, 68 to earn one point and came in third place with 3.5 points. Congratulations to Team Chula (Ava, Ximena, Valentina, Gizelle/Kenzie, Skylar, Madison, Abigail, Fernandina) for being this year’s 13u PGA Jr League champions!! It is the third year in a row that an all-girls team wins the 13u championship.

The race for the medals this week was very competitive. Team Vista 1 (Dylan, Payton, Liam & Noah) was at 2-under after 4 holes. They made an eagle 3 on the 7th hole to get to 4-under par. Unfortunately for them, they made bogey on the 8th hole, but bounced back with a birdie on the 9th hole after a terrific tee shot by Noah to post a 4-under par, 33. So they had to wait it out to see if their score would hole up. Team Chula 2 (Kenzie, Skylar, Madison, Abigail, Fernandina ) was at 2-under par after 4 holes. They made an eagle 3 on the 5th hole to get to 4-under, then played the last 4 holes in 1-under par to post an excellent, bogey-free, 5-under par, 32 and take the lead. However, Team Chula 1 (Ava, Ximena, Valentina, Gizelle) also had a great day. They were at 1-under par after 4 holes, but then reeled off 4 consecutive birdies on holes 5 thru 8 to also post an excellent, bogey-free, 5-under par, 32. What an incredible round of golf by both girls teams!! Instead of matching scorecards, as we typically do whenever there is a tie, we had a putt-off to determine the medal winners. Madison was up first and she hit a great putt to about a foot from the hole. The rest of the girls gave it a shot, but nobody could get I closer than Madison’s putt. Congratulations to Kenzie, Skylar, Madison, Abigail, Fernandina for being yesterday’s medalists.
