Wellness in Motion

Wellness in Motion Wellness In Motion is a Pilates and movement studio in Boise, Idaho. We specialize in back care, sc Jen is a graduate of Polestar Pilates.

Wellness In Motion LLC founder, Jen Gorman, is a scoliosis and spinal fusion patient, advocate, and teacher. She teaches Pilates, yoga, and strength training nationwide for people with scoliosis, spinal fusions, and other back care concerns. She is passionate about inspiring people to live healthier and happier lives! At the age of eleven, Jen’s ballet teacher noticed an asymmetry in her shoulders

. Soon after a doctor diagnosed her with scoliosis and within a year she had spinal fusion surgery. Bone from her right iliac crest fused the thoracic vertebrae (T3-T10) and was secured by a Harington rod. Jen danced professionally in high school and then attended the University of Notre Dame. She became a Certified Public Accountant and then quickly returned to dancing professionally. Although these experiences differed significantly, her back was sensitive regardless of whether she sat all day or danced all day. She frequently experienced a certain level of discomfort and pain. Jen began practicing yoga to balance her body from the many hours of dancing. She discovered that yoga combined with other methods of cross training allowed her to manage and all together avoid pain. Eventually, she found her way into a yoga for scoliosis class and then a yoga for spinal fusions class in New York City. These classes brought to light an even deeper understanding of her body as well as the effects of scoliosis and spinal fusion surgery. Her certifications include the following:
⭐National Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT)
⭐Pilates Adaptations for People with Scoliosis Supporting the Schroth Method Teachings with Hagit Berdishevsky and Lise Stoltz
⭐Yoga for Scoliosis Teacher Training Program with Elise Browning Miller
⭐NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Certified Personal Trainer
⭐Functional Movement Screen Level 1 and 2
⭐Chicago Yoga Center Hatha Teacher Training

Jen continues to study weekly in Deborah Wolk’s Intermediate Yoga and Scoliosis class as well as in Hagit Berdishevsky’s Schroth + Pilates class. Jen is proud to be a member, teacher, and founding officer of the highly esteemed Samamkaya Back Care & Scoliosis Collective in New York City.

June is Scoliosis Awareness Month! and I are hosting a free Yoga & Scoliosis Class + Social.

4:30-6pm Class (downstairs studio)
6-6:30pm Social (downstairs lobby)
Please feel free to join both times or just one.

Join Jen Gorman and other adults living with scoliosis for this introductory yoga and scoliosis class + social.

During the class portion, Jen will discuss the sagittal curves of the spine as well as two key concepts of working with scoliosis: axial elongation and global expansion. Oftentimes those of us with scoliosis experience a sense of compression in the spine. We may also experience that the back feels overworked, tired, and even fibrotic on one side. Jen will talk about how to integrate axial elongation and global expansion into a yoga practice – awareness, breath, poses – to assist those of us with scoliosis.

Following the class, we’ll have time to socialize and talk with each other. Get ready to meet other adults living with scoliosis, learn about each other, and talk about how we navigate living with scoliosis!

This workshop is intended for people (and their friends and family) with scoliosis as well as wellness clinicians and practitioners who work with these clients. People with spinalfusions are always welcome.

I'm teaching a Yoga & Scoliosis extended class at True North Yoga on Saturday April 11th and May 16th. People with spinal fusions are always welcome!

I will teach a sequence with a focus on elements important to working with scoliosis - breath, axial elongation, global expansion, opening areas of collapse, and finding the plumb line.

EQUALLY important, we will talk about living a full life with scoliosis. How can we take our practice into every day life with mindfulness, breathing techniques, awareness, playing with our edge, and releasing the ego? What do these things have to do with our scoliosis?

This class series will blend practice from the Iyemgar yoga traditions with personal experience and scoliosis research. I was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 11 and underwent spinal fusion surgery at age 12. I've taught and studied Yoga, Scoliosis, & Spinal Fusions for over 10 years in New York City and Chicago.

2016 started in Thailand with A few days later I travelled solo to Myanmar where I had the most magical evening of travel in my life at the Shwedagon Pagoda.

A few months later I danced in Show Boat for the second time at The Dallas Opera! I successfully managed my scoliosis and spinal fusion. The experience was completely different than the first time I did the show at the Kennedy Center when I explained a lot of pain.

After several years of practicing, studying, and assisting, I started teaching the Yoga & Spinal Fusion class at .

That summer I booked my first commercial for Chico's. I also did my first gig, and it was even at the Waldorf Astoria!!!

In the fall my dad and I embarked upon a search for Machado's Post Pile near Lake Tahoe. We didn't succeed. Then I travelled to Idaho for more adventures with my mom.

And the year ended with my brother celebrating Christmas with me in NYC! We went to our favorite pizza place, New Park Pizza. To this day it reminds us of childhood because my grandparents used to live nearby in Ozone Park, Queens.
