While BASE is mostly active here in Boise, our touch has expanded far beyond the Treasure Valley. As we began to retire our old red ski jackets, replaced by the new blue ones (which you too can wear if you volunteer with us this winter!!!) we wanted to find a deserving home for our old jackets. That home ended up being 3,500 miles away!
Venezuela, while known for being a warm country contains the Andes Mountain range in its southern parts reaching up to 16,000 feet above sea level and having temperatures that dip well below freezing.
In 2024 the UN estimated that 82% of Venezuelans live in poverty with many of these families making a monthly income of only $1.25. Warm weather clothes are out of reach for these families and that’s where we came in.
BASE sent down 130 winter jackets that are now continuing their service warming up deserving people and providing a lifeline to those who couldn’t afford them otherwise. We are so proud to be able to donate these jackets and help those in need as heart of our organization is community, connection, and compassion reaching far beyond our mountain.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible and we can’t wait to see you on the slopes this season!
