What is Courage?

Wow! What a weekend for Boise Studio of Self Defense and our students! We had 14 students participate in the Treasure Valley Karate Tournament this past Saturday and we couldn’t be more proud of our school and our students.

Just showing up for the tournament, which was the first for almost all participants, was a huge deal. It takes guts to put yourself out there in front of family, friends and strangers to do something you’ve never done with rules that you don’t fully understand in a place you’ve never been before. Even if we didn’t win a single medal it would have been a tremendous accomplishment just to participate.

As it turns out…WE WON 13 MEDALS! For a dojo new to tournaments (we had 4 students participate last year) we did incredibly well, finishing 8th overall out of 18 schools. What’s really impressive is that we did that while competing almost exclusively in sparring. We had 2 students compete in weapons forms as well.

Again, we are thrilled and proud of all our students who participated in this event. We will almost certainly participate again next year and hope to see even more of you there!
