Stuck N The Rut was created in 2010 by owner Travis Schneider as a family based business, filming our own hunts and keeping them 100% real. Our goal at SNTR is to create a user friendly website for the customer to watch weeky episodes of our 100% free DIY hunts. Fans have the option to be directly linked to some of the highest quality hunting gear sites in the world. You’ve been asking for another wolf hunting episode, so here it is! This August, I joined my friends on a really cool wolf hunt here in Idaho.

After more than a decade of hunting wolves, I’ve seen encouraging signs of wildlife populations rebounding in some areas. I believe responsible wolf management plays an important role in maintaining balance and giving other wildlife a chance to thrive.

While I prefer mature deer and elk when hunting, wolf hunting is different. You take the opportunities you get, whether it’s a mature wolf or a younger one. Every ecosystem is different, and management strategies need to reflect the unique challenges each landscape faces.

Wolves are fascinating, intelligent animals, but they’re also part of a complex ecosystem. Managing their populations is an important part of the ongoing conservation conversation.

Travis and I ran this new PEAX Equipment Co. Dyneema tent all last month in Wyoming, and we absolutely love it! We’re really looking forward to putting it to the test in the colder months ahead, especially when the snow starts piling up.

One of the biggest reasons I love the concept behind the PEAX tent is that it brings back a lot of what we used to have with our traditional wall tents. A couple of decades ago, we packed into our camps with horses, hauling in meals and all the gear we needed. Once we got away from using horses, packing in a wall tent with a wood stove became a whole different challenge. It’s just a lot of weight to carry into the backcountry.

I feel like PEAX has found that perfect middle ground. They’ve developed a tent that allows you to pack everything in on your back while still having the ability to dry out your clothes and boots during those cold, wet months of the year.

Whether you’re planning a longer backcountry hunt or just want a comfortable, functional camp, nobody enjoys coming back to a miserable setup after a long day in the mountains. Having a solid camp can make all the difference.

My 2nd elk tag is filled, and with a good bull to top it off! It took a lot of hiking and many miles covered to finally find a pocket of elk, but the hard work paid off. Feeling incredibly fortunate and grateful for a great hunting season so far. Now it’s time to shift my focus back to mule deer!

A lot of days, a lot of miles, and a whole lot of hard work, but in the end, I was able to pull a good, mature mule deer buck off the mountain as well.

After countless days of hiking into camp, packing gear, and bouncing between different areas of Wyoming’s deep backcountry, this hunt was starting to take its toll. On the second to last day of the season, I finally found the buck I’d been looking for.

Hunts like this are a good reminder that there’s always something new to learn. Just when I think I have mule deer figured out, they find a way to humble me and make me question everything I thought I knew.

I came home with more than just a buck, meat in the freezer, and a rack on the wall. I gained valuable knowledge and experience that will make me a better mule deer hunter moving forward.

I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who helped along the way and for all of you who continue to support us and follow along on this journey.

I can’t wait to share the hunting videos from this adventure with you all. Trust me, you’re going to want to see these!

Well, Travis got it done on a big Wyoming giant. He’s got a 34” wide frame, and even with those crab forks, he still scores 191 inches.

We put in a ton of time on this deer. We went into Wyoming prior to r***e season during archery season, pretty much just scouting with a bow in hand. We covered tons of country, but couldn’t find a shooter buck.

We took a break heading back home to catch up with work, then went on Travis’s mountain goat hunt. After Travis killed his mountain goat, we decided to head right back to Wyoming and hunt out the rest of the r***e season.

Again, we were seeing a lot of young bucks and maybe one mediocre buck a day, but we just couldn’t find anything that was even close to what we considered a shooter.

Eventually, Travis and I decided to split up to cover more ground. We both had tags, and in order to put the odds in our favor, we knew we needed to spread out.

Since Travis had already killed his mountain goat, he gave me first choice on where I wanted to hunt. I told him I wanted to go one direction, so he decided to head the other way up the mountain, navigating using onX Hunt

Not long after, he got eyes on this big mule deer buck. He made his way into range and put a great shot on him. The rest is history.

This is a beautiful, giant buck, the widest buck in the family. It’s hard to describe just how big this deer is, photos don’t do it justice.

This was probably one of the toughest deer hunts I’ve been on in a very long time. We covered an unbelievable amount of country and saw very few animals, but somehow we were able to get it done.

We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and even more grateful to have been able to share the experience together.

ARCHERY MOUNTAIN GOAT DOWN!!!

It’s a little bittersweet. We had an absolute blast on this hunt, and seeing my brother Travis finally accomplish his dream of archery hunting a big Billie made it all worth it.

There were a lot of challenges along the way. First, drawing the tag. Second, finding a mature goat. Third, getting within archery range of one. And fourth, being able to pack that goat out from wherever we could retrieve it after it expires.

onX Hunt was essential for navigating the steep, unforgiving terrain. Just because you can see a goat doesn’t mean there’s any way to get to him. We timed the hunt just right, late enough for the hide to get thick, but early enough to hopefully avoid getting snowed out.

After a couple days of hunting, we finally laid eyes on some good Billies across the way. The next morning, we made our way over and found a good spot to glass from.

Long story short, Travis spotted the Billie he wanted, but the old goat was on high alert. It seemed like every archery stalk we made, he knew something was up.

On our third attempt, the Billie worked his way into a thicker timbered area. That gave us the opportunity we needed to close the distance. We’re timber hunters anyway, nothing is safe in the trees! 😂

We closed the distance to 58 yards. The Billie was looking straight up toward us, trying to figure out what he was seeing. I flashed the Ultimate Predator and ran the video camera, which sparked his curiosity.

He stepped into the open.

Travis came to full draw. I filmed and held the decoy to keep the goat occupied.

And the rest is history.

Congratulations, big brother! You worked your tail off for this one, and I couldn’t be happier to have been there to share it with you.
