A challenge, bigger than any in the valley.
Huge even.
Worldly one might say.

THE World Cup Challenge. Rules are simple:
- Climb routes that have a country route tag on them (route setters are assigned to each country)
- Attempt or send each route
- YOU decide which country advances to the next week (*by rating and reviewing through KAYA)

You have FOUR weeks to advance your favorite country (each week the progressing countries display a different region for you to rate and climb). starting… NOW!

Who is Kaya and why is the Common’s talking so much about her recently??

Glad you asked! Kaya is the app the gym is using to add some digital flare to the space. It’s the place you can rate routes, leave reviews, interact with other climbers, and (ding ding ding) route names are BACK BABY!

It’s also how you can keep track of different climbing related challenges that the gym is curating. Like the that was supposed to start today, but in fact got postponed and is now starting on June 5th. Good to know!

Also, this is your reminder to download Kaya, register with the commons gym, and learn more details about the challenge.

*In this hands-on class, you’ll learn practical techniques to release tension, improve mobility, and support recovery using tools like lacrosse balls, yoga straps, and yoga blocks. We’ll focus on common areas of restriction for climbers including the forearms, shoulders, chest, lats, and neck, while exploring simple recovery practices you can continue using at home between climbing sessions.

What’s with all the extra rope?

If you’ve been in our gym recently, you may have noticed that the fixed top rope lines are a whole lot longer than they used to be. Dealing with a bunch of additional rope might even feel like an annoyance. We hear you and have genuinely appreciated your patience during this transition.

The reason for increasing our ropes is pretty straight forward: when we keep our ropes long, we are able to disperse the points of repeated wear and tear over a greater area and significantly expand the life of our equipment. Replacing ropes more than is necessary is poor form and super unsustainable.

✨ COMMONS SPOTLIGHT✨

Everyone meet Sarah! She is the new Operations Coordinator. She first started climbing in 2013 and even worked at The Commons/back in 2020 when we first opened.

Sarah is excited to be back at the gym and around so many familiar faces. ‘It feels a bit like coming home.’ As operations coordinator Sarah gets to do lots of fun organizational things like make sure all the respective teams, that keep this gym running, have what they need to work well together.

You can talk to her about gym logistics and figuring out how to get everyone whatever it is that they need to be successful.

Please say hi if you see her in the gym! 👋🏼
