Linda Tramontano
To all of Linda’s friends and family, and to all of you who never had the chance to meet her, I feel just as sorry for you—because you missed the opportunity to know a truly remarkable woman.
Linda has passed and is now on her journey home.
I promised her that I would find her again, and I will. But for now, I could not watch her be taken apart little by little for another day. She was not in pain, but ALS slowly took away so many of the simple things in life that we all take for granted.
Imagine not being able to speak.
Not being able to eat.
Not being able to get around on your own.
Not being able to stop somewhere for a cup of coffee.
Not being able to go out to dinner together.
The ordinary things that never seemed important until suddenly you could no longer do them.
And yet, through it all, Linda was still Linda—a happy person right to the end.
Over the course of her life, Linda mentored, cared for, and loved thousands of children who came through our doors at West Boca Karate during our 40 years together. She touched more lives than she could ever have known. Many of those children are now adults with families of their own, and I know they will carry a piece of Linda with them.
Linda was my wife, my partner, and a part of my life that can never be replaced.
As I try to find my way forward, I will let everyone know the arrangements our family has made for my wife.
For now, please remember Linda for the life she lived, the children she helped, the people she loved, and the thousands of lives she touched.
In the middle of her ALS journey, Linda could no longer speak to me with her voice. But she could still speak to me with her hands.
The last thing Linda ever said to me was in sign language:
“I love you.”
Those were her last words to me, and they are words I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
I made you a promise, Linda. I will find you again.
And when I do, the first thing I will say is:
“I love you too.”
