🩵🧜🏻‍♀️ Happy Wildlife Wednesday y’all! We have a little update for y’all. For those of you that have missed Michelle’s tours, or education she is now the environmental director for Cedar point environmental park. While I won’t be giving tours on the water anymore I will be at the park M - F and will be doing lots of work with the community and education! Hope to see y’all at the park or out in the community during the many events CHEC will be participating in around the Englewood, Cape Haze and Boca area in the coming months!

Limited operating hours. Open to the public with the attendance of the Charlotte County History and Library Staff - January to March on Fridays from 10:30 am - 2:30 pm and on special occasions.

Thank you Boca Beacon for keeping everyone informed, up to date & for sharing this in the paper yesterday! 📰

🏖️ Boca Grande numbered street beaches are still currently OPEN as they always have been!
The new rules & regulations will not be enforceable for at least a couple months, I confirmed this yesterday with a Lee County Commissioner. It is not enforceable until the signs are up! There has not been an official plan created yet for the new decal system either, so this will all take time to implement.

Despite all the online animosity, our island businesses would absolutely love and appreciate our locals continued support, especially as we move into and out of our slow season. This was not our choice.

Let's try to be respectful to one another through this disappointment and come up with solutions. Many of us have faced several challenges over the past few years, so let's not lose our humanity over a parking debate.

Although we are not happy with the outcome, there is still hope to make improvements. 💞

🌱🌴 Up and at it early this am. Did you know that there are native edible plants that are nitrogen fixing? And that not only do these plants take atmospheric nitrogen and convert it to nitrogen that plants can use improving water quality but being edible they can also help with food scarsity and sustainability! I believe providing fun and interactive classes with adults and children we could make a real impact on how people design their lawns and imporove water qulity.

💕 Thank you to the The Pink Pony of Boca Grande for all your hard work in the community regarding this. Hopefully they will work on amendments to make this fair for small businesses on island as well as protecting the beaches, wildlife and personal property.

🌿💚 When most people walk along the rivers edge they see “weeds” and bugs and critters they are scared of or grossed out by. When I walk along the rivers edge I see plants that all have ecological benefits and many that medicinal benefits and are edible such as this tiny little white flower the seaside Brookweed. This little white flower is edible and has been used to treat kidney stones and skin conditions and can be used as a “soap”Ecologically it helps clean the water of excess nutrients and toxins and helps with erosion due to its root structure.

🐛🧡 Found a pretty cool critter this am on my walk around camp. First i found a corksystem passion flower vine I was super excited about but what made it even more spectacular is there is a Gulf fritillary caterpillar feasting on a leaf of the vine! It is rather fitting since the passion flower is the host plant for this very special butterfly and were it gets its other common name, passion butterfly. I also came across a blooming lanceleaf arrowhead. Another common name for this aquatic flower is duck potato because the tuber of the plant is edible and is much like a potato. They can be eaten raw but are much better when cooked. Always be careful of which waterway you pull them from to eat because they do uptake things like herbicides, pesticides and fertilizer from the water which are toxic.

🪼While we are no longer on island we are concerned for what is to come for our friends that are like family that own businesses on island. The new proposed parking “laws” will have serious consequences for small family businesses on island which is a huge part of what makes Gasparilla island so special. Please support Boca Community Access Alliance!

🐔💚 Alrighty We think “This Clucking adventure Couple is a pretty funny yet accurate name for our Social Media page for now. Here is a link to our tictok that goes back to pre last year hurricane season. It gives a little bit of our journey to how we got to where we are, and moving forward we will be doing more videos together. Mostly for fun but also to inspire people to enjoy every moment in life especially the “simple” things. As of now we are not able to change the name of this page but we will post here when we have a new video up as well as fun, and educational content regarding our ecosystems, chickens and goals to one day maybe having a small homestead! Or wherever else our journey may lead us.
