Saw an interview with a whitetail outfitter on Ron Spomer's podcast, that said when a client expresses his desire to harvest a trophy buck he tells them they have the wrong outfitter. He only provides a hunting experience, no strategic effort is made to down a trophy. Well, I am unashamedly on the complete opposite end of that kinda of thinking. Trophy bucks represent the older more mature animals in any given herd and are exactly the ones my clients pay good money to harvest. We utilize every ounce of usable meat but we don't kid ourselves into thinking our guys are traveling across the country just to put venison in the freezer.

It is my hope that all of our clients are spending some time shooting their bows. I know this may sound like a broken record, but there is nothing you can do that will give you a better chance at success than being extremely confident with your equipment. It does not matter how good a shot you used to be. That is old news and does not apply to how well you can shoot today. Practice some from an elevated position if you can. That is where you'll be hunting.

In my opinion there are few places where a bowhunter has a realistic opportunity (40% or higher} of harvesting a 150" buck or better under fair chase conditions. At TCO we are working to provide this type of hunt for a few hard-core bowhunters on our Kansas ground. We are dedicated to being one of the best in the business. Whitetail deer continue to amaze me. I have found mature trophy bucks in some rough and remote places. But recently I scouted a small property less than 1/4 mile from town and guess what? Found buck sign , big buck sign. They look for seclusion, and sometimes they find it just on the edge of town where nobody hunts.

From the time I scheduled a moose hunt in Alaska till now has been a crazy 2 1/2 years. Had to call it off last fall for health reasons. This Sept will be flying out to Anchorage and the bowhunting adventure begins.

There is a lot of hard work in the outfitting business. It requires scouting, selecting stand sites, hanging stands, cutting shooting lanes, guiding clients, tracking deer, dressing deer, dragging deer, getting deer meat and cape ready for travel. Then when hunt is done all stands have to be pulled and hauled out of woods. Thankfully I have great guides that now carry most of the load. You have to love it. Until next year!
