BIG, BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Payton Reed on becoming the newest addition to the Wofford Terrier softball program!! Payton is one hell of a talent. In addition to being a terror at the plate for opposing pitchers she is one hell of a catcher, and hard working athlete who studies her craft and is always looking to develop and constantly improve her performance in every aspect of her game and in her life.
You've opened a door and earned an opportunity to see just how good you can be. No path is easy, nor are there many straight lines to success. It doesn't often fit the story book notions we as people tend to create in our heads while it's happening. Staying the course, finding the courage when times get tough and the confidence doesn't come with ease becomes it's own skillset to produce at a high level day in and day out. Keep up the OUTSTANDING work young lady! I'm looking forward to what we'll see from you at the collegiate level.
Congratulations should also go out to the Terriers for landing a great player that's going to pay BIG dividends for that program! You got it right you lucky dawgs..

Develop your focus level... In this analysis video she's sharing directly and regularly with her hitting instructor, Lilah Douglas demonstrates the focus level necessary to develop a great swing and to identify and improve the specific aspects that will make her a dangerous hitter to face and a consistent high level, productive MONSTER at the plate.
In this clip she has worked an entire tee session on her own doing the specific work and drills that focus on creating more ground force and a more relaxed backside flow with her hands and shoulders getting into a strong pull position at launch to produce more power, better plane and line through the ball with increased barrel release out through contact. This swing is number 5 of 5 balls she struck and video'd at the end of her routine to track and evaluate her progress with those specific aspects of her swing.
The points she's working on fit with the approach she has developed and is constantly working to sharpen at the plate. Together, these aspects serve to feed a confident and hungry mentality at the plate that just wants as many chances as it can get to EAT!
To all young sluggers out there. When you put in work be clear, focused and vigilant with your time and develop your time-alone sessions to their peak. Work with your swing consistently with a mind toward your approach in the box. Be "patiently impatient" so that you can get to the answers and maintain the drive to pursue them. It takes time and honest investment. You're training your mental state, brain, body and central nervous system to sharpen your swing to the highest level you're capable of to create a consistently "damn near perfect movement". It's a monumental and worthy pursuit that deserves the time, focus and effort you put into it.
As always, PROUD of what your doing, Lilah!

We wanted to extend a tip of the cap to all seniors on their senior nights playing in their final home high-school games. It has been a long journey of growth as young ladies, as individual players and teammates. We see your commitment, dedication and passion and understand the blood, sweat and tears it takes to produce at a high level while keeping up with your academics and the many aspects of your lives that require high commitment levels as well. We hope you enjoy the moment you earned and so richly deserve.
I was lucky enough to have a free evening to attend this year's Senior night with our seniors at Blythewood high-school last week and was honored to watch two of our Redzone pitchers pitch well in a 16 to 7 winning effort that also saw two of our Redzone players go YARD in the game as well. Hell of a game Lilly Zell, Charlotte Martin, Cici Martin and Rhames Weisinger(Though she is not yet a Senior, but contributed with a dinger for the Senior night win)!! I personally appreciate the honor of being allowed to work with you and share in your softball lives. CONGRATULATIONS LADIES!

Nearly 2 years going through disk injury and surgery and 1 year post surgery. I think the picture stands on it's own. This is Lilah Douglas framing a pitch in a scrimmage game recently. If you want to understand the joy in playing this sport, I believe it's in the expression on her face.

We survived the last turf install in the outdoor tunnels this weekend. We are just about ready for spring practices to start up out here. A few more finishing touches on the field and backstop area and a little warm weather and this labor of love will have us up and rolling in 2026! BIG THANKS to Jeff Iglesias and Kieth Gilstrap for their help with the project. We couldn't have done it without our RIDERS...

BIG KICK! Wide stride, dropping hands.

Annarea Wilson constantly amazes me with her growth as a player. She started a tournament this past weekend a little charged up. Leg kick in the box was a little BIG to start her motion into contact causing over-stride and a subsequent dropping of hands at launch and loss of connection through contact as pictured in the two sample stills taken from her swings on day 1 of the tournament included in the follow up post.
The adjustment was to shorten up by cutting the leg kick down, thus cutting the stride down to allow the hands to come directly from the launch point in a shorter, more connected swing. I'll let her Dad's words do the talking that he sent in a text to accompany the video included in this post to start day 2 of the tournament, "Smaller stride... YARD!"
Better hitters are always looking to improve performance without overthinking it. Whether it's in their pre-game work, or adjusting to issues as needed that they pick up on during the tournament/game to either correct or directly improve their performance, the work to improve is always going on. Just another day at the office. PROUD OF YA' HITTER!

Do the disciplined work consistently in your hitting routine and know what your doing it for. Free swinging and working your position with zones and planes that go with the approach your currently using at the plate are a must, but practice discipline for developement first.
This is Payton Reed, one of our hardest workers and "one HELL of a hitter" getting some sweat equity in August. The vid shows her hard at work establishing and working against a strong front side to create straight, efficient, explosive lines from the backside through contact and barrel control in the zone.
After establishing the disciplined work for the day she unleashes that work with a 3 zone outside-in approach in the front side soft toss piece of our session.
Keep putting in the consistent, intelligent work and stacking those meaningful reps. Work hard and work SMART. The window for fall/winter developemental work is open and it will slip by with all the turkey and Christmas cheer of the holidays before you know it if your not ON IT!!

We'd like to extend HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Ava Sapp for earning SCISA 4A Pitcher of the Year honors!!! Not only for her GREAT performance over the course of this HS season, but because stepped up and delivered a WHOPPER of a year when her team needed her most after their 4 year All-Region pitcher graduated last year. Thank you for the display and reminder that hard work, talent, patience and courage are the ingredients of excellence!
