By now I'm sure you have seen that Governor McMaster signed the Open Carry with Training Act into law. This will allow CWP holders to carry openly. THIS DOES NOT GOES INTO EFECT UNTIL AUGUST 15, 2021. Please note your gun must "qualify" under the definition of a concealable weapon- firearm having a length less than twelve inches measured along its greatest dimension.

As a 2nd Amendment enthusiast and lover of guns in general this makes me extremely happy as it should you. Now as an instructor I am going to advise you of a couple things.

1- Even though come August 15, 2021 it will be legal for you to carry openly, I DO NOT recommend it. Open carry will only bring more attention to yourself. As concealed carriers, our only "advantage" is the element of surprise if something were to happen. From a bad guys perspective, if I'm thinking of doing some bad guy things, the first person who I'm "dealing with" is the person with the gun.

2- If you do decide to carry openly, please use a holster with active retention. There are only 2 active retention holsters I recommend, and they are the Safariland ALS and Blackhawk T- Series Level 2 holsters.

If you've taken a class from me you know the 4 main things I focus on when it comes to fundamentals: sight alignment, sight picture, trigger press and grip. If you haven't taken a class from me here's why those are my focus points.

You need to have your sights aligned properly, proper sight picture and a good trigger press to get your hits. THAT'S IT. I bring up grip because having the proper grip is what allows us to have faster follow up shots.

Notice how I didn't touch on stance. If you look at this still shot from a recent shooting, notice 4/5 people aren't in a "shooting stance" why is that? Because they were all MOVING. I got this next part from the guys at Tactical Response: If you have a good stance you 1 aren't using cover properly, or 2 aren't moving.

What are your thoughts on the subject? Is having a good stance a key to good shooting?

A question that I get asked a lot is:

Q- why do I tap the magazine and rack the slide when the slide locks back.
A- When the gun goes click and not bang, that by definition is a malfunction. And our first course of action with a malfunction is to tap & rack. Once I tap & rack and I know for sure the gun is empty, then I proceed with a reload.

What do you guys think?

By now everyone has seen the double murder su***de that happened in PA earlier this month. A few things we can take away from this event:

1- you win 100% of the fights (including gun fights) you don’t get in.
2- know when to shut your mouth and move on.
3- have a plan no matter where you are. When rounds were fired, the man and woman stood still and froze while the dude continued shooting. Which brings me on to my next point.
4- MOVE YOUR FEET. Regardless of the fact this situation shouldn’t even have happened, it took the dude 7 shots to get his first hit. The man and woman just stood there as it happened. MOVE YOUR DAMN FEET AND GET TO COVER.
5- carry your gun
6- if you aren’t going to carry your gun, CARRY MEDICAL
