📚 From the archives: ‘Gaelic Sunday’, 4 August 1918

On 4 August 1918, around 1,500 hurling and football matches were played simultaneously across Ireland in defiance of a British ban on Gaelic games. An estimated 54,000 players took part in what became one of the most remarkable acts of peaceful resistance during the revolutionary period.

Joseph E.A. Connell Jr explores how the GAA organised this extraordinary nationwide demonstration of cultural identity and resilience.
