Hi! I look forward to teaching your child!

I’m Joanna and being from South Florida, I have always loved the water. I grew up in a family of avid boaters, with a pool in our backyard, and the beach only a short drive away. It’s no wonder that my first job was as a lifeguard at our local waterpark. Within a few years, I became certified as a Water Safety Instructor and taught traditional style swimming lessons throughout college. After gradu

ating with a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, I became certified to teach Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid & Babysitter Training. I taught these skills to childcare providers and young teens aboard a Marine Corps military base. Over the past 10+ years, I have learned and taught so many about the importance of water safety, and it is something I am extremely passionate about. But it was really once I became a mom that fear of the water struck me. I knew the potential dangers, and I would hear about the accidents all the time. I had this pit in my stomach knowing that I needed to get my baby safe as soon as she was crawling around. Infant Swimming Resource was introduced to me in 2019. After some research and watching some videos, I signed my baby up to complete the ISR program. I was AMAZED at the results and so impressed with the Instructors, the technique and the philosophy. At just 1 year old my daughter could swim, float, and swim her way to safety. My mom heart knew I made the right choice in signing her up for ISR lessons. In 2020 I had my second baby and being a military family, it was coming time for us to move again. I knew I wanted to sign my son up for ISR lessons as soon as he was 6 months old, which was right around the time we would be moving. I looked for an ISR instructor in our new location, but to my dismay, I couldn’t find one. During one of my daughter’s maintenance lessons I mentioned this to her instructor and inquired about the process of becoming an ISR instructor. Flash forward 3 months and I found myself starting my ISR Instructor Training at the same time that my son was starting his lessons. I am so excited to have the opportunity and privilege to provide the Infant Swimming Resource Self-Rescue™ Technique to the families of Beaufort & Jasper County!

Have a SAFE Memorial Weekend!
These are some great water safety tips for all summer long 🩵

Be safe this holiday both in and around the water!
⭐️Always stay within arms reach of your child when in the water and always be IN the water with your child
⭐️Assign a “Water Watcher” in 15 minute increments if you are around the water regardless if swimming time is planned- they must stay off their phone during their “shift”
⭐️Hire a lifeguard if you plan to have a party where a pool or other water is present
⭐️Place tables, chairs, or any other furnishings a few feet away from your pool child safety fence. Curious children can climb onto these items and find their way over the fence
⭐️Check the integrity of pool fence latches and door locks leading to the water
⭐️Remove pool floats and toys from the pool when finished swimming to not entice a little one into the water
⭐️Dress your child in a brightly colored swimsuit if at the beach or pool
⭐️ Drink lots of water and reapply sunscreen often
⭐️Use only US Coast Guard approved life jackets when on open water
⭐️Have a SAFE holiday!

If you’re looking for afternoon or evening lessons, don’t let the drive to Rincon scare you! ISR lessons and getting your child water safe are worth it!!!! I did it for my kids and I would do it again and again!
Southern ISR still has some spots open for her session starting at the end of July! Reach out to her directly if you are interested :)

Bluffton has a New Certified ISR Instructor in search of a pool to provide lessons at! If you or someone you know is interested in Hosting ISR lessons at your home or community pool (with community approval), please let me know! DM or email at [email protected]
I’d love to connect her to you so together, we can get more kiddos in our community water safe!

Hosting would entail allowing a Certified & Insured ISR instructor to utilize the pool for a set amount of time in order to provide lessons to multiple families. All lessons are one on one instruction - no group lessons.

I encourage all parents to take a second thought this year before purchasing or using a puddle jumper or similar floatation device for your child at the pool. Even if you think they know better than to go in without it…just remember that kids do things they know they aren’t supposed to do all the time…
