Jase Smith - IS ON AA ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM
A statement from WVSWA president Jim Workman
Bluefield boys basketball player Jase Smith has been added to the 2026 Class AA All-Tournament Team following a review of the All-Tournament voting process by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
The WVSWA, which selects the All-Tournament Team, determined that Smith's performances were not properly reflected during the voting process and that the addition was warranted. The WVSSAC concurred with the association's recommendation.
"The West Virginia Sports Writers Association is retroactively adding Bluefield boys basketball player Jase Smith to the 2026 Class AA All-Tournament Team," said Jim Workman, Executive Director of the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. "It is rare that such decisions are made, but the documented nature of this error warranted the correction and it is our desire that history reflect this deserving honor for Jase Smith."
Some things just don’t sit right.
If you watched this postseason… if you were in the gym… if you felt the energy, the pressure, the moments — then you already know.
Jase Smith of the Bluefield Beavers and Ty Martin of the Graham G-Men didn’t just play… they took over.
We’re talking about players who:
🏀 Stepped up in the biggest games of the year
🏀 Led their teams deep into the postseason
🏀 Delivered night after night when it mattered most
Jase — putting up huge numbers in the postseason, controlling the tempo, making winning plays on both ends.
Ty — answering every call while hitting big shots, locking down defensively, and leading with grit and confidence his team to a State Championship….
That’s not just good basketball… that’s all-state caliber basketball.
But somehow, their names were missing.
No list can measure heart.
No vote can erase what people witnessed.
No recognition can replace the respect they’ve already earned.
Because the truth is — when the season was on the line, these two didn’t disappear…
They rose.
They carried teams.
They inspired teammates.
They represented their schools and communities the right way.
And everyone who watched knows it.
Use it as fuel, fellas. Remember this feeling.
Because players like you don’t get defined by what they didn’t receive…
You get remembered for how you respond.
And something tells me this story isn’t close to finished.
Proud of you, Jase and Ty. You deserved your respect — and you’ve already earned it.
Congratulations to Channing Disibbio and Ricky Dunford, well deserved honors
