I did a little bit of experimenting yesterday evening as the question of the day was asked earlier to me by another shooter: How do I improve my groups @ 25yds? I shoot really great groups at 7-10yds, but they go to crap at 25yds.
My reply is always this question: What is your idea of a great group @ 7yds?
So I decided to do a "shoot through" test to confirm exactly the level of accuracy needed at 7yds and what it equates to at 25yds.
I set up two targets, one in front of the other, shooting through the first target at 7yds and verifying the hits on the second target .
The 7yd group is 3/4" which results in a 25yd group of 2 5/8".
So the answer is this:
In order to shoot tight groups (3" or better) at 25yds, your group shooting better be nearly 1 ragged small hole at 7yds. #1911
